Brenthaven 5-in-1 is one versatile iPad case

It's so much more fun reviewing iPad cases than those for the iPhone or iPad because the very nature of the iPad offers designers a chance to be a bit more innovative with accessories for the tablet. Let's face it: there's only so much you can do with a case for the iPhone or iPod.

That's true for the iPad, but to a lesser device. As evidence I present Brenthaven's 5-in-1 iPad Case (http://www.brenthaven.com/ipad-catalog/5-1-ipad-case-matte-black). Weighing in at only 1.11 pounds, this multi-faceted iPad case (which measures 7.55 x 9.75 x .5 inches) performs five functions including:

° A two-sided hard shell protection system for protection;

° A horizontal viewing stand for watching your favorite movie;

° Strap attachment system for watching shows on the go;

° A typing stand when you need to tap out an email;

° An EZ-Grip handle system to help secure your iPad safely in your hand while reading an e-book.

The external shell is covered with a soft, matte black rubberized texture for ease of grip. While performing the different functions of the case, the back side of the iPad will always be covered and protected.

The US$59.99 case is as versatile as it sounds. It's easy to install (and un-install) and offers solid protection for the iPad (though there's no screen protector). Detach the top part of the shell, and you'll have a nice set-up for watching videos on the iPad. And the EZ-Grip system provides a clever "grasping" option And you can attach the included headrest strap to hang the iPad on a head rest in an automobile, which is great for letting the kiddos watch a movie on long road trips.

Does the headrest strap system wrap around an airplane headrest? Well, that depends on the airplane seat. If there's a headrest for the strap to wrap around then it will. Of course, you should be courteous and clear it with the passenger in front of you before attaching the 5-in-1 iPad case to the headres

Flip over the detached top of the 5-in-Case and you can use it as a typing stand. At least that's what the folks at Brenthaven say. However, I found the video watching set-up a better typing options. But you pays yer money and makes yer choice.

And the 60 bucks gets you a solid, versatile case for the iPad. Plus, the 5-in-1 -- available in black or silver -- comes with a lifetime guarantee.

That said, I do have to deduct a couple of points because, with the case installed, my Dock connector couldn't quite make the connection to the iPad. Which means I had to remove the tablet from the shell before connecting it to my Mac. Not a deal breaker, but a bit of a convenience.

Terra Noctis: Free Dreaming Promises Ple...
When I first played Terra Noctis, I came away with an incredibly positive opinion. Sure it had its share of problems. In fact, it had a ton of small ones. However it was still a cool platformer that was well worth the somewhat hefty (comparably) price of $2.99 at the time. The cost has dropped down to $0.99 since then, but even that might be “too... | Read more »
