Software training and eLearning content provider Infinite Skills has just released a new video course (http://www.infiniteskills.com/training/os_x_snow_leopard_technical_and_security_skills.html) exploring many of the advanced features in Mac OS X 10.6 (“Snow Leopard”).

Taught by Apple systems expert Chris Tarnowiecky, the course has been created to help users expand their awareness of the UNIX-based operating system and accomplish technical and security tasks such as command line use, disk partitioning, software automation and more.

“There’s a really big gap in the way Mac security is usually marketed and discussed,” says Mike Spaulding, president of Infinite Skills. “We’re excited to bring viewers a real, fact-based look at how these subjects actually impact power users and systems administrators around the world, without the fluff.”

While it covers complex topics and techniques, the OS X training video uses direct demonstration to guide viewers through difficult areas. Tasks are shown onscreen in real time, with accompanying audio that explains each step and allows users to follow along. Because the tutorials are split into individual lessons, viewers can view the included tutorials in any order, focusing on the subjects they want to know without delay.

After a brief overview of the basics of navigation and control, Tarnowiecky challenges viewers to see their Macs a professional tools that can serve many purposes at once, and within multi-user environments. He explores the Mac OS X file system, associated permissions, metadata and commands. Next, the lessons look at the power of automation, not only using the Automator tool that comes with Snow Leopard but also shell scripting for more flexible purposes. After demonstrating Mac developer tools, he moves onto security essentials, which include disaster prevention and recovery, securing accounts, encryption, securely erasing data and more.

This Snow Leopard tutorial series can now be ordered on DVD for US$99.95, or accessed as an instant download from InfiniteSkills.com.
