Kapeli (http://kapeli.com) has announced iGuard 1.0, its first Mac App Store-exclusive application. Even though Mac OS X is already protected from most threats, iGuard adds an extra layer of security and will protect users from hackers that could gain remote access to their Mac, according to the folks at Kapeli.

The app keeps an eye on the currently active user sessions and warns the user of any threat. It allows users to detect any unauthorized access to their system and stop it. Users only have to enable its AutoProtect feature, which will run iGuard quietly in the background. iGuard will then notify the user in case of any threats. iGuard will be available for US$1.99 (USD) on the Mac App Store.

Craig Federighi, vice president of engineering for OS X, demoed Mac OS X Lion and the Mac App Store at an Oct. 20 “Back to the Mac” event. The Mac App Store brings the Apple App Store experience to Mac OS X, making discovering, installing and updating Mac apps easier than ever, he says. Like on the iPad, you purchase apps using your iTunes account and they download and install in just one step.

App updates are delivered directly through the Mac App Store, so it’s easy to keep all of your apps up to date. The Mac App Store will be available for Snow Leopard in January and will be included in Lion when it ships next summer.
