DEVONtechnologies (www.devon-technologies.com) has released a second public beta of DEVONagent and updates all editions of its information manager DEVONthink and its intelligent note-taking application DEVONnote to version 2.0.7.

The second beta of DEVONagent 3.0 brings new plug-ins, e.g. for Gutenberg.org and ACM Digital Library, and a new navigation bar for search results that gives direct access to all objects collected on a selected page. Selections can be remembered and are re-applied to similar content when loading the same or another page from the same site to simplify taking notes, using services, or adding to DEVONthink.

Domains and single URLs can be excluded from searching with wildcards, several scanner and search plug-ins have been improved, the plug-in assistant is more flexible, and older archives are no longer renamed and so still be accessed from DEVONagent 2.3.1. Finally, the Application and Help menus have been rearranged, the visual appearance has been improved, and a number of bugs have been fixed. DEVONagent 3.0 beta 2 again accepts v2 license codes (the final release will require a v3 license code).

DEVONthink/DEVONnote 2.0.7 is a maintenance update bringing support for Microsoft Outlook 11, an improved Take Note panel, and better smart group handling. Version 2.0.7 also fixes a bug that prevented DEVONthink To Go to search more than the first 1KB of text per document (databases have to be removed from the device and re-synced to take advantage of this fix). Users of DEVONthink can jump directly to a page of a PDF by entering its page number. DEVONthink Pro (and up) imports notes from del.icio.us, too, special groups added to the sidebar retain their icon, and already installed add-ons cannot be installed again accidentally.

DEVONthink Pro Office 2.0.7 improves the performance and usability of email archiving and text recognition and adds compatibility to ScanSnap Manager 3.0, which is installed e.g. by the new ScanSnap S1100. Finally, the 2.0.7 releases improve the overall compatibility, e.g. to Tinderbox and Sente 6 (DEVONthink Pro and up), and fix a number of other bugs.

All applications require require Mac OS X 10.5 or later and can be downloaded as free trial versions from http://www.devon-technologies.com . DEVONthink and DEVONnote can be test-driven for free for 150 hours of non-continuous runtime, DEVONagent 60 hours, until they need to be properly licensed.

DEVONagent 3.0 public beta can be used for free but expires at the end of March when it will need to be replaced by either a new public beta or the final release. Users who purchased DEVONagent on or after January 1, 2009, will be eligible for free upgrades. Upgrade offers will become available before the final release is published.
