Travel Express holds, protects the iPad and lots of goodies

If you're going to use your iPad 2 with any accessories and are planning a trip, WaterField Designs' iPad Travel Express (http://sfbags.com/products/ipad-cases/travelexpress-ipad.php) is worth the US$69 investment.

The travel case stows the iPad (by itself or, in a smart move by Waterfield Designs, while decked out in the Apple Smart Cover), the Apple wireless keyboard and additional accessories. Even crammed full of goodies, the iPad Travel Express can be stashed inside a bag, backpack, suitcase or -- with an optional strap -- worn over the shoulder. The shoulder strap comes in a $12 "simple" version or a $22 "suspension" model.

As with all the Waterfield Design products I've tested over the years, the Travel Express is both stylish and practical. It has an iPad-specific, scratch-free pocket for the iPad (the original model or the second gen tablet). An Apple Wireless Keyboard slides into main compartment. Plus, there are scratch-free inside pockets that hold and organize cables, adapter, cell phone, keys, wallet, etc. Two impact-resistant plastic inserts protect the accessories and the iPad's screen.

The Travel Express is designed for durability with its water-resistant, 1050 denier, ballistic nylon build. A YKK zipper opens the case along the top and side panel for easy access to contents. It comes in several flavors, including black, copper, flame, green, pine or pearl. I'm not a flashy kinda guy, so I prefer the black or copper versions.

If you travel with only an iPad and the bare essentials, you can find a workable, cheaper case. But if you, your Apple tablet and some extra goodies are making a trip (short or long), the Travel Express should make the trip with you.

Rating: 8 out of 10
