Kool Tools: Internet Security Barrier

We all know that Macs are more secure than other computing platforms. Intego's Internet Security Barrier (http://www.intego.com/internet-security-barrier/home.asp) can make it more secure still.

The software works with Mac OS X 10.5 and higher and offers protection from malware, network threats and other security issues. Internet Security Barrier X6 includes anti-malware protection together with firewall, network protection, parental control, anti-phishing, anti-spyware, backup and antispam features, and more.

While viruses, Trojan horses, worms and other forms of malware are a threat to computers of all kinds, cyber-criminals are turning to new techniques to infect and control the Mac, according to the folks at Intego. Focusing on malware or network attacks alone is no longer sufficient to protect Macs from the dangers of the Internet, they add. In addition, children are at risk from inappropriate content, files and data need protection against loss or damage, and spam reduces productivity, says Intego.

Internet Security Barrier X6 is the latest version of Intego's security suite and boasts more than 200 new features. Those features include multiple threat-detection techniques, improved methods of detection, and a range of defensive functions for malware and network protection. There's also parental control, backup and antispam features.

Internet Security Barrier X6 contains the following software programs: VirusBarrier X6, ContentBarrier 10.6, Personal Backup 10.6, Personal Antispam 10.6 and FileGuard 10.6. It costs US$79.95 for a standard pack for up to two Macs for a one-year protection plan. A family pack (for up to five Macs) is $159.99 with a one-year protection plan. Two and three year protection plans are also available.
