Would you buy an Apple Watch?

Kate MacKenzie of "PixoBebo" (http://macte.ch/PMQYf) thinks Apple's "next insanely great thing" will be a watch.

Wait, you say: Apple already makes a semi-watch in the iPad nano. There are lots of third party "watch bands" that allow you to wear it on your wrist. And the iPad nano comes with digital clock faces range from classic analog looks to your favorite Disney characters including Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

My problem with using the nano as an iWatch is that the screen frequently goes dark to save battery power. So you have to “wake up” the nano to see what time it is. I prefer a wristwatch I can simply glance at to check the time. So perhaps there's an opportunity for an Apple watch.

MacKenzie envisions the Apple watch "as not much more than a dumb screen on your wrist that receives signals via Bluetooth from your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or even your Mac." This would allow phone calls to be originated from and sent to the Apple wrist watch. Music, TV shows, movies and notifications could also be "beamed" to it as well.

"What better notification center could there be than your watch?" writes MacKenzie. "It’s more ubiquitous than an iPhone and it’s not stuffed out of sight in your pocket or purse. It’s right there, on your hand, ready to use, always visible. Email, text messages, alarms and alerts could easily be routed from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac direct to your Apple watch."

Add Siri and the Apple watch act as your built-in microphone and speaker to communicate with Siri and your iPhone without touching the iPhone, she adds. I'd be game for something like that. How about you?

Anyone afraid that throwing Transformers into the Angry Birds mix would result in a Michael Bay-level of childhood pillaging can rest easy. We find out in... | Read more »
