Sakar, Polaroid to debut Wi-Fi-enabled camcorders

Consumer electronics manufacturer Sakar International has announced what it says is one of the world's thinnest and lightest full 1080p high-definition camcorders.

The debut signals the launch of its new line of high-performance Polaroid-branded digital camcorders, the first in a family of new digital video products to be available this year under an exclusive licensing agreement. Sakar will unveil the new products at Stand C008/D009 in Hall 5.2 at Photokina, the photography exposition and technology fair, Septe. 18-23 in Cologne, Germany.

The products will debut in mid-September at select Sears and Kmart stores, and will be available shortly after at Staples, Office Depot, Ritz Camera, BrandsMart USA, Tiger Direct/Comp USA, Canadian Tire, hhgregg, QVC, HSN, BestBuy.com, Walmart.com, Target.com and Newegg.com. The products will also be made available later this year in Europe, India, the Middle East and Brazil.

The US$179.99 Polaroid iD820 (pictured) is a1080p HD camcorders with an ultra-thin body (a half inch wide). It packs a 3-inch 16:9 gesture touch screen and 12-megapixel resolution into less than 4 ounces. Tiny enough to drop into a shirt pocket, the iD820 features dual-stream recording capability that lets you record two sets of video simultaneously on the card -- one in full 1080p hi-def and the other in YouTube-ready quality. The iD820 comes with its own carrying case and HDMI cable, and operates on a lithium-ion battery.

The $179.99 Polaroid iD879 features a 5x optical zoom, a 3-inch gesture touch screen and dual-stream recording. It includes dual memory card slots -- a MicroSD and SD -- for double the memory and recording time.

The Polaroid iD450, also $179.99, has built-in Wi-Fi that lets you stream live video to the Web via the onboard Ustream app, upload instantly to YouTube, Facebook or other sharing sites, and even view live video on iPad, iPod or Android devices via the downloadable Apple and Android apps. It sports full 1080p video quality and a 3-inch gesture touch screen.

The $99.99 Polaroid iD640 waterproof, shock-proof, dust-proof and freeze-proof pocket video camera with 4x digital zoom and 2-inch LCD display captures 720p HD video up to 10 feet underwater. Designed for boating, diving, rafting and other watersport adventures, the pocket-size iD640features an SD card slot and comes with its own lithium battery and charger.

It could have easily happened that my life would have taken me down the road of becoming a meteorologist. However, that didn’t happen and I found myself becoming a journalist instead.
