NetMarketShare: Mac OS X, Safari up, iOS down

According to the latest market share survey from NetMarketShare (http://www.netmarketshare.com), the market share for Mac OS X, Safari and iOS all rose in September.

According to the report, among desktop operating systems, Mac OS X had 7.16% of the global market share in September compared to 7.13% in August (that's global market share; in the US it's over 10%). That's an all time high for Mac OS X. Windows remains dominant with 91.73% as of September. That's down from 91.77% in August.

When it comes to desktop/laptop browsers, Safari had 5.26% in September compared to 5.10% in August. Internet Explorer had 53.63%, Firefox had 20.08% and Chrome had 18.86%. That compares to, respectively, August percentages of 53.60%, 20.05% and 19.13%, respectively, for the browsers. Safari's all-time high is 5.43% in October 2011.

The iOS's still dominated in September, according to NetMarketShare. It had 63.48%, compared to 22.10% for Android, 9.34% for Java ME, 1.83% for Symbian, and 1.78% for Blackberry. That compares to 65.94%, 20.93%, 8.37%, 1.44% and 1.90%, respectively, in July. The all-time high for iOS was in July 2012 with 65.94%.

NetMarketShares' monthly surveys don't measure market share in terms of computer systems sold. Instead they sample data from visitors to some 40,000 web sites operated by their clients. And note that NetMarketShare's numbers don't equate to sales.
