Mac OS X software updates for Oct. 12

Here are the latest updates for Mac OS X apps:

Zevrix Solutions (www.zevrix.com) has announced Graphic Inspector 1.7.19, a maintenance update to its quality control solution that checks batches of graphic files for potential problems according to specific workflow requirements. The new version improves the handling of JPEG files on Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Objective Development (www.obdev.at/) has released Little Snitch 3.0.1, an update of their application firewall. Rules can now be created by dragging applications on Little Snitch Configuration's dock icon or on Little Snitch's status menu item. Also, Network Monitor Snapshots are now displayed without traffic meters and server names in gray.

Koingo Software has updated Mac Cleanse (www.koingosw.com/products/maccleanse.php), a small Mac OS X application geared towards purifying your system, to version 2.0.1. It's a maintenance release with some bug fixes.

The Pixelmator Team (www.pixelmator.com/) has rolled out Pixelmator 2.1.2, the latest version of its image editing app. The new version improves the Healing Tool quality.

Kapeli (kapeli.com/dashexpander/) has given us DashExpander 1.7.1. The app saves you from typing long strings of text by defining abbreviations that are later expanded whenever you type them. Version 1.7.1 is a maintenance release with several bug fixes.

PlayToddlers has served up Find It for the iPad. It's a free, hidden object game for children. They're tasked with finding a set of images from hand-drawn illustrations of different colors and shapes. The game includes 24 different themed levels with different topics.

Fidelity Media (www.megaseg.com) has delivered version 5.8.5 of MegaSeg Pro, its DJ software, with over 60 improvements. The update focuses on many areas of the application including automatic volume control, category editing, event automation, importing, library tools, list views, metadata, MIDI control, output devices, playlist browsing, segue crossfades, visual wave mixing, ambient video, hot key sound effects, logging, and music scheduling.

Part of the series 148Apps Goes Deep on XCOM: Enemy Unknown I’m still haunted by visions of a parallel world (classified as Xbox 360) as it wasn’t long ago that I was in charge of the XCOM project and led a squadron of soldiers against an alien army. Soldiers I grew attached too, including the first Colonel who helped lead us to many victories. | Read more »

Favorite Four: Soccer Games
As a soccer fan, I’m getting twitchy. The Confederations Cup might be helping a little, but I miss the English Premier League week in, week out. This is where I sink time into FIFA 13 on my console in order to counteract the problem. What about while on the move, though? Here’s a look at my favorite 4 soccer games, each offering a slightly... | Read more »

148Apps Goes Deep on XCOM: Enemy Unknown
XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be released tonight for iPad and iPhone. And we’re very excited. While XCOM isn’t the first console game to be ported over to iOS, it is one of the most ambitious. XCOM: Enemy Unknown – Cheats, Tips, and...
The X-Com series, particularly the earlier games, are notoriously unforgiving. Although while XCOM: Enemy Unknown has been modernized, and is therefore more player friendly, it’s no slouch either. In fact, even on the Normal difficulty there’s a good chance you’re going to get creamed if you try to breeze through it. But all is not lost. If you... | Read more »
