Apple rumors: Emoji apps, product constraints, more

Here are the latest Apple rumors from the blogosphere:

"Apple's iOS devices have long carried at least partial support for emoji, picture characters popular for text messaging in Japan but also gaining interest in countries around the world. Initially the feature was unlocked only for Japanese customers, but over time the company has broadened access to emoji and now supports several hundred emoji characters for all users once they enable the special emoji keyboard." -- "MacRumors" (www.macrumors.com)

"With the iPad mini hitting shelves Friday, supply of Apple's iPhone 5 has not yet caught up with demand in the U.S., according to a survey of Apple retail stores." -- "AppleInsider" (www.appleinsider.com)

"Apple fans lined up in several Asian and European cities to buy the iPad mini on Friday, but the device, priced above rival gadgets, drew smaller crowds than previous launches." -- "Reuters" (www.reuters.com)

"Apple has lost an injunction bid that would have allowed it to continue selling iPhone-branded products in Mexico. A court in Mexico City handed down a ruling last Thursday denying Apple's injunction request on the grounds that the iPhone brand is too phonetically similar to iFone, a brand belonging to a Mexican company that registered its name four years prior to Apple's filing for the iPhone brand mark." -- "Electronista" (www.electronista.com)

"In addition to building its own tablet to compete with the iPad, Microsoft may design and sell its own smartphone to take on Apple's iPhone, according to a new report." -- "AppleInsider" (www.appleinsider.com)
