Apple, HTC settle patent dispute


Apple and HTC have reached a global settlement that includes the dismissal of all current lawsuits and a ten-year license agreement. The license extends to current and future patents held by both parties. The terms of the settlement are confidential.

"We are glad to have reached a settlement with HTC," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a press release. "We will continue to stay laser focused on product innovation.”

"HTC is pleased to have resolved its dispute with Apple, so HTC can focus on innovation instead of litigation," adds HTC CEO Peter Chou.

In 2010 Apple filed a lawsuit against HTC for infringing on 20 Apple patents related to the iPhone's user interface, underlying architecture and hardware. The lawsuit was filed concurrently with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and in U.S. District Court in Delaware. HTC responded with counter-lawsuits.
