Mac OS X software updates for Nov. 28

Here are the latest updates for Mac OS X apps:

Ergonis Software (www.ergonis.com) has released PopChar X 6.1, an improved version of the company's tool for efficiently dealing with fonts and special characters. The new version adds a new Font Info view, which shows  detailed font information like version number, properties, supported languages, copyright and license statements, information about the designer, manufacturer, vendor, and more.

In addition, PopChar X 6.1 includes custom tunings for more than 600 fonts, including the BeLight Font Kit and some foreign language fonts. Furthermore, PopChar now remembers the selected font across quit and relaunch, offers improved vertical positioning of certain non-standard fonts, and adds a number of other enhancements.

Aaron Smith has announced MicroAC 1.1 (http://gngrwzrd.com/microac) , an update to his streamlined audio application that enables batch conversion between 9 Core Audio compatible formats. Designed for developers, audio engineers, and audiophiles, MicroAC is a GUI [graphic user interface] version of Apple's command line "afconvert" tool and comes with support for most of its input and output formats.

128bit Technologies (www.macappware.com) has revved MacOptimizer, its disk utility application, to version 1.2. The upgrade introduces new optimization features that allow you to repair disk permissions and empty iPhoto Trash, and enhanced support for file types in its Desktop Genie.

Twocanoes Software (www.twocanoes.com) has rolled out Winclone 3.6 and Boot Runner 1.1 and unveiled new product support and maintenance services. New to Winclone 3.6 are bug fixes and the addition of Dutch language support. Winclone allows users to create an exact snapshot of Windows on the Boot Camp partition and restore snapshots to the Boot Camp partition. Twocanoes now offers technical support and maintenance, including two years of access to priority technical support and all minor and major upgrades.

New to Boot Runner 1.1 are bug fixes and the addition of Dutch language support. Boot Runner gives complete control of boot management on dual-boot Macs, including a unique selection screen and Finder menu quick-boot selector.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown – Commander’s Log: H...
Part of the series 148Apps Goes Deep on XCOM: Enemy Unknown I’m still haunted by visions of a parallel world (classified as Xbox 360) as it wasn’t long ago that I was in charge of the XCOM project and led a squadron of soldiers against an alien army. Soldiers I grew attached too, including the first Colonel who helped lead us to many victories. | Read more »

Favorite Four: Soccer Games
As a soccer fan, I’m getting twitchy. The Confederations Cup might be helping a little, but I miss the English Premier League week in, week out. This is where I sink time into FIFA 13 on my console in order to counteract the problem. What about while on the move, though? Here’s a look at my favorite 4 soccer games, each offering a slightly... | Read more »

148Apps Goes Deep on XCOM: Enemy Unknown
XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be released tonight for iPad and iPhone. And we’re very excited. While XCOM isn’t the first console game to be ported over to iOS, it is one of the most ambitious. XCOM: Enemy Unknown while first released for XBox 360 and PS/3 in 2012, this turn-based strategy game has transitioned to touch controls better than any others... | Read more »

XCOM: Enemy Unknown – Cheats, Tips, and...
The X-Com series, particularly the earlier games, are notoriously unforgiving. Although while XCOM: Enemy Unknown has been modernized, and is therefore more player friendly, it’s no slouch either. In fact, even on the Normal difficulty there’s a good chance you’re going to get creamed if you try to breeze through it. But all is not lost. If you... | Read more »
