Bare Bones Software has released TextWrangler 5.0, an upgrade to its general purpose text editor for Mac OS X. It’s built on a new, modernized foundation and compatible with OS X El Capitan.
TextWrangler 5.0 also introduces newly overhauled systems for Find Differences and syntax coloring. In addition, the upgrade introduces new built-in support for EditorConfig and adds dozens of other enhancements and new features.
With this new release, TextWrangler gains the latest advancements and extensive modernization that Bare Bones implemented in BBEdit 11. The new Find Differences workflow provides a more efficient single-window presentation of results for both file and folder comparisons. A new sidebar for folder comparisons identifies mismatched files and makes easy the process of copying files to bring
two differing folders into harmony.
TextWrangler’s new internal syntax coloring mechanics now allow greater flexibility in color choices for language support. Many factory-supported languages now sport additional color options, and TextWrangler 5.0 also includes several tastefully constructed built-in color schemes.
This new version of TextWrangler provides a number of new built-in commands and editing gestures to enhance everyday productivity. A new”Highlight instances of selected text” feature aids navigation; new commands are provided to support editing tabular text, and make easier the manipulation of entire lines of text.
Customers who later decide to step up to BBEdit 11 will retain user preferences, automatically imported, from an existing TextWrangler 5 installation.
