Lehman Analyst Tim Luke says that based on his study of NPD data, Mac unit sales grew 50 percent on a year-over-year basis in May, ahead of the 37 percent growth in the second quarter that Lehman had earlier predicted. Luke says Lehman Brothers anticipates the updated line of Mac laptops prior to the back-to-school season, including redesigned MacBooks, MacBook Pros and more MacBook Airs.
What's more, sales of iPods in the month were up 11.6 percent in units. That's slower growth than the 14.6 percent gain in April, but ahead of the two percent year-over-year decline Lehman had forecast. Average iPods pricing in the quarter was down four percent.
Regarding the iPod touch, Lehman Brothers Analyst Ben Reitzes thinks that Apple will make changes to the device and/or lower prices to reflect lower iPhone prices.
