Analysts: 70% chance of a Verizon iPhone in 2010

As reported by Silicon Valley Insider, this will happen because:

° Verizon is the biggest U.S. carrier, and could help Apple sell millions more phones per year.

° Apple is no doubt aware that AT&T, its current iPhone partner, is facing major network problems in big markets like New York and San Francisco.

° Verizon would otherwise continue to invest heavily in Apple rivals like Google Android and RIM BlackBerry.

° Thee smartphone market is a platform land grab and Apple can't afford to lose ground -- even at the risk of complicating their product line or back-end systems.

On the other hand, Silicon Valley Insider says there are reasons why a Verizon iPhone might not appear in 2010. Apple and Verizon might not reach an agreement over revenue sharing. Apple may want to wait for 4G before selling at Verizon, suggesting no iPhone until 2011 or 2012. Or perhaps AT&T will offer even higher subsidies to keep Apple's business exclusively for another year or two.
