DisplaySearch notes that the notebook computer market shrank six percent quarter-to-quarter as of the first quarter of 2008, but was up 35 percent to 31 million units. HP remained number one in the notebook market for the seventh consecutive quarter, maintaining a lead of almost two million units over Dell in the number two position.
HP’s share of the market was over 20 percent for the sixth consecutive quarter. Dell grew to 15 percent share, a mark they last held in the fourth quarter of 2006. Most of the other top ten brands have maintained their ranking over the past several quarters, with the exception of Sony, which has dropped from number six in the third quarter of 2007 to number nine in the first quarter of 2008.
