Atempo delivers file, email archiving support for Mac environments

The introduction of Atempo Digital Archive (ADA) for Mac marks the first dedicated file archiving software to deliver enterprise-class archiving capabilities to the Mac platform, says Karim Toubba, vice president of marketing and product management at Atempo. In addition, with new support for Microsoft Entourage 2008, Atempo Digital Archive for Messaging (ADAM) becomes the first e-mail archiving software to support the fast-growing e-mail client for Macs, he adds.

Atempo also furthered its commitment to serving Mac-intensive vertical markets with the integration of Apple Final Cut Server with ADA, ensuring long-term storage for media assets created in data-intensive industries, according to Toubba.

Atempo Digital Archive enables the automated and end-user triggered movement of data from primary disk onto archival media. New features in ADA for Mac include the ability to archive data from an Apple Xserve, and the ability for end-users to install an ADA Client Interface, empowering individuals with the ability to manage the archive of their digital assets themselves.

This function enables users to drag and drop files from their primary location directly into the archives. In addition, Mac users now have the advantage of ADA’s other features, including de-duplication, full content indexing and search, and Atempo Meter Utility, a tool that identifies inactive, fixed content data ready for archive.

Atempo Digital Archive for Messaging is the first e-mail archiving product that supports Microsoft Entourage. The first release of ADAM for Entourage includes a plug-in that offers mailbox management and stubbing capabilities for Entourage users. Mac users utilizing Entourage as their primary e-mail client have the ability to access the e-mails that have been archived from the Exchange Server into ADAM directly from the Entourage interface. They now have the same level of access to the archived messages as traditional Outlook users.

ADA’s integration with Final Cut Server also marks an important step in serving data-intensive media and entertainment markets, Toubba says. The media asset management and workflow automation software is widely-used in this Mac-heavy industry, but by itself can only archive data to a very limited set of disk devices. With its integration with ADA, users can enable the storage of fixed-content media assets stored in Final Cut Server into a wide number of long-term storage devices. The archived assets are displayed in Final Cut Server and marked with a specific icon to ensure easy retrieval and quick restoration.

With ADA and ADAM matching Atempo Live Backup and Atempo Time Navigator in Mac support, Atempo now offers a complete line of data protection and archiving products customized for Mac users. Contact the company for pricing options.
