MacItBetter has released BetterZip 1.4 for Mac OS X.

January 30, 2007 – The new version can not only strip Mac specific
files, e.g., resource forks or Finder settings, from archives, but
also arbitrary files. This is particularly useful for removing all
version control folders with one click. The patterns for the major
version control systems Subversion and CVS are already included, but
you can enter your own search patterns using regular expressions.

Extracting single files from zip archives is a lot faster in the new
version, especially for larger archives. BetterZip will now remember
your favorite archive format and use it for saving new archives. The
new 1-Click-Save function can create archives in one step without
asking for a filename, folder, or archive format. BetterZip 1.4 can
now open and extract DEB and RPM archives.

Extracting archives is now a free functionality, bugs have been
fixed, and many feature requests sent in by users have been
integrated.

BetterZip 1.4 opens, extracts, and even creates fully WinZip
compatible AES-256 encrypted zip archives. Furthermore, BetterZip can
extract and create zip files larger than 2 GB as well as archives
with these formats: tar, gzip, bzip2, rar, and 7-zip. Even more
formats can be viewed and extracted: arj, cpio, lzh/lha, cab, iso,
and chm. BetterZip also opens various zip based Java archives: jar,
war, sar, par, ear, and wsr files.

BetterZip lets you quickly inspect archives without first extracting
their contents. You can add or extract files via drag-and-drop,
delete files from archives, rename files, and create new folders
inside the archive.

The integrated file browser gives an archive-centric view on the
filesystem. No other files are displayed in this drawer.

BetterZip is a universal binary and requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or
later. The trial version can be downloaded from
http://macitbetter.com/ and is fully functional for 30 days. A single
user license can be purchased for $19.95, family and business
licenses are available.
