Campus MovieFest provided Apple laptops with iLife software, camcorders, training, independent music, and a week for all college student participants to make their own five-minute movies during the CMF 2005-2006 Tour throughout California, Georgia, Boston, Florida, and Scotland. Campus MovieFest was originally created five years ago by a team of students at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. David Roemer, co-founder of Campus MovieFest, says the CMF team was thrilled by the Grand Finale participation. "Student teams from all over the nation took planes, trains, and cars -- and who knows what else -- to the Grand Finale to see the stories of students who expressed their ideas to the world through the power of movie-making," he said.
The movie-making events are provided for free to students thanks to partners this year including Delta Air Lines, Coca-Cola, and The History Channel.
"The 30th Annual Atlanta Film Festival is delighted to partner with Campus MovieFest to present the International Grand Finale this year," Jake Jacobsen, the director of the Atlanta Film Festival, said. "The association between the AFF and CMF reflects our dedication to championing the finest new work by student filmmakers around the globe."
Sixteen short five-minute movies were screened at the celebration at Georgia State University's Speaker's Auditorium. All the top movies have been featured for the world to see this past week on the main [url=http://video.google.com]Google Video homepage[/url].
A panel of judges from around the world determined the winners for this year's Campus MovieFest categories. Winners were:
° SNOOZE, by team Jeff and Justin Productions, from Georgia State University. It's a story about all the possible events of a given day that could change if someone hits the snooze bar and sleeps five minutes longer.
° Best Drama: Elevator Girl by team Ornana Films, from Emerson College. A businessman tries to muster up the courage to speak to a woman who rides the same elevator as him everyday.
° Best Comedy: CarBoy: The Five-Seater with a Heart of Gold by team Black Hand Productions, from Georgia State University. CarBoy Pendleton is just like every other all-American 17-year-old ... except that he happens to be a car.
Other top entries included entries from Emerson College, Georgia Tech, University of Tampa, Emory University, University of Georgia, Tufts University, Northeastern University, Spelman College, University of California Berkeley, and Georgia State University. Two of the movies showcased were part of a new CMF category this year called "History Lives," presented by The History Channel.
Campus MovieFest is now finalizing its 2006-2007 Tour, beginning in the San Francisco Bay Area in August.
