Wi-Fire provides interoperability with any 802.11 b/g access point and multiplies the effectiveness of wireless networks allowing users to connect to a WiFi network from up to 1,000 feet, more than three times the range of AirPort cards and other 802.11 adapters, at significantly higher speeds, and even in locations where no wireless signal could be detected previously, says hField CEO Tom DiClemente. It measures 3 x 4 inches and is three-eights of an inch thick.
The Wi-Fire folds up with its mounting device and USB cable for portability. It's designed "for the seriously mobile Mac user as well as Mac users who have problems connecting to their regular wireless network because of distance, obstacles or other interference," DiClemente says.
The new version comes with new software (Wi-Fire Connection Manager 2), which brings a more "Mac-like" experience to Wi-Fire users and is available for download on the hField site now. Anyone who has a previous version of the Wi-Fire Connection Manager software on their Mac should use the included uninstaller first. It will uninstall 1.0, 1.1 and prior pre-releases of 2.0.
