The research project is based on a new version of AT&T's WATSON speech recognition engine. It's called Speech Mashups and puts the entire feature on the Web as a service that can be called upon from anywhere a high-speed Internet connection is possible. Even though voice dialing won't work with this brand of speech recognition, it will work for a few other cool things.

AT&T claims that voicing the information is faster and more convenient than typing it -- especially when driving.
