How EvoCam works
Using virtually any QuickTime-compatible video camera -- including an Apple iSight -- EvoCam periodically captures an image and uploads it via FTP to your web server. Need a security camera to remotely watch your home or business while you're gone? You can create one or more motion sensors, which will analyze the video for motion and capture a new image when motion occurs. EvoCam can also create timelapse QuickTime movies, compressing hours, days or weeks into seconds of video.
Built-in web server included
EvoCam also has a built-in web server, allowing you to connect directly to EvoCam using any Java-capable browser and view your webcam. The built-in server can be password protected, and you can customize the HTML to give your webcam a personalized look.
Intuitive user interface
EvoCam is an easy-to-configure, easy-to-customize webcam application. EvoCam uses true WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) editing of text captions, picture badges, clocks and effect items. EvoCam allows you to edit these items in place over live video from your camera, continually updating the video display in realtime, even if you are moving or resizing items, editing text within a caption, or changing an item's color. With EvoCam's intuitive user interface, you'll be running your own webcam in minutes.
Webcam Example
Below, I'm going to show you an example of a home security webcam (to remotely monitor my home) I put together to demonstrate how easy it is to set up. In this example, I'm using FTP to upload images to a server. With EvoCam, you also have the option of using the built-in server. (see documentation in the EvoCam Help menu)
Uploading Images
I have the iSight on my MacBook Air running uploading images via FTP to a free hosting account I have. If you have a host for a website of yours, you can upload your images there.
DIsplaying Webcam
EvoCam comes with the necessary files needed for a webcam page. Just take the Java html and evocam.jar files and upload them into the root directory of your host account, or use your OS X internal Web server on your Mac, as I did in the example below.
I'm using the Leopard's OS X internal Web server on my MacBook Pro as a server for a website. (see instructions here) I just dropped the Java html and evocam.jar files in the following "Documents" folder and then turned on Web Sharing in the Sharing preferences control panel.
HD > Library > WebServer > Documents > jwebcam.html & evocam.jar
You can access my live webcam at the following URL: http://bmer.servemp3.com/jwebcam.html
You can also add the webcam to a page on your current website by inserting the following Java applet code. This is the same HTML code embedded in my jwebcam.html file.

Note, the paths have to be set with your domain name.
