MacNews Category Review: Parental control software

imageThis MacNews Category Review looks at parental control software for Mac OS X. Products covered include Bumper Car, Content Barrier X4, D-Link Express EtherNetwork Routers, GURL Watcher, KidsServer PD, LiveMark Family and Safe Eyes Parental Control.

Bumper Car

Bumper Car is a web browser for kids with parental control features. Kids can browse the Internet by clicking on any of the buttons or categories, or by typing a destination in the address field. Or they can use you arrow keys to move the toy bumpercar into the "Tunnel of Mystery" to be teleported (randomly) to one of over 40,000 kid-friendly sites on the built in collection of Whitelists.

Content Barrier X4

ContentBarrier X4 offers predefined categories that let users choose what they don't want their children to see. Parents can also create their own custom categories.

D-Link Express EtherNetwork Routers

D-Link Express EtherNetwork Routers are four-port broadband 10/100 Ethernet routers with firewall and parental control ability.

GURL Watcher

GURL Watcher lets you take charge of what children, employees or other users are doing while they’re surfing online. The user places this small application in the extensions folder, turns it on with the included SetUp application, and that's it. GURL Watcher works in the background to record all the sites visited by a computer's users. You can either save these URLs in a designated file known only to you, or email them to a designated address.

KidsServer PE

KidsServer PE is a personal edition of the web filtering software "KidsServer." It's a parental control program for Mac OS X and can restrict any browsers.

LiveMark Family

The LiveMark Family analyzes pages before their display, and blocks them if necessary.

Safe Eyes Parental Control

Safe Eyes Parental Control Software lets you block objectionable material, limit time spent online, block instant messenger chats and receive instant alerts if questionable activity occurs.
