The Amigo perches on the lid of your laptop when it's open and connects via USB so doesn't need batteries. The speaker system uses NXT "Exciter" technology that generates bi-directional sound. That sound doesn't equal a separate speaker system with subwoofer but it does add some depth to the shallow speakers that come on all laptops and adds some bite to the bass. Not bad for a $30 product. The Amigo has an output of 2 x 1.2 W RMS and frequency response of 180Hz to 20Hz.
The Amigo is small enough that you can slip it into a spacious laptop case. If you're a road warrior, it's a handy tool for fleshing out presentations. It's also convenient for watching videos or listening to music on your laptop when you don't want to use headphones.
