MaxUpgrades has released the US$39.99 MaxSink, a heat sink for fully buffered DIMM memory modules for the Mac Pro systems. It's designed to provide effective heat disspation of such modules operating at high speed (533Mhz or 667Mhz) .
The MaxSink is made of precision machined aluminum and provides mounting for uniform pressure distribution. According to the folks at MaxUpgrades, it offers low thermal resistance between DRAM Chips (FBGA) and the heat sink for optimized heat transfer with thermal conductive interface Pads and is designed for fluctuating memory module temperature variations. Its surface has been treated to minimize thermal resistance between the heat sink surface and ambient to maximize heat transfer.
Unlike any other Mac, the Mac Pro uses Fully Buffered DIMMS (or FB-DIMMs), an Intel-developed format the offers high memory performance—at a price tag higher than other RAM. That’s because each FB-DIMM has its own memory controller onboard.
