Migration Kit: psychology office management software for Mac OS X


For those new to the column, Macsimum Migration is our term for companies moving from Wintel machines to Macs -- or at least adding or increasing the number of Macs they use. A Migration Kit is an overview of Mac OS products for a particular occupation, such as dentistry, accounting, etc.) This week we look at psychology office management software for the Mac.

Biopac

Biopac (http://www.biopac.com/) is a system includes the hardware and software to conduct life science student practical lessons. Measurements of ECG, EEG, EMG and EOG, pulmonary function, gas analysis, reaction time, nerve conduction, and other topics are fully presented. Manuals are provided, describing initial setup, software options, and lesson procedures. The hardware has four input channels and one output channel. The multi-level learning features of the Biopac Student Lab System, along with its proven success in thousands of labs worldwide, make the BSL the ideal teaching solution. The system can also be customized for other measurements and also makes a useful research tool.

ODLog

ODLog (http://www.macropodsoftware.com/) is an application for the accurate timing and recording of observational data. It's typically used by scientists in: naturalistic field observation studies, animal behavioral experiments and human psychological experiments. Although ODLog was primarily designed for researchers working in the behavioral sciences, it can also be used in any applications involving accurate manual scoring of live or videotaped observational data.

Practice Magic

Practice Magic (http://www.practicemagic.com/)combines a calendaring feature with billing and check depositing features. The program maintains a record of all clinical and non-clinical appointments. Weekly, multi-weekly, and biweekly appointments can be carried forward from week to week automatically. Practice Magic can print a day sheet or a week's calendar of appointments in a variety of formats including one that replaces Daytimer calendar inserts. You can input payment information directly into Magic, and it will print a deposit slip for your bank deposit.

Psychophysics Toolbox

Psychophysics Toolbox (http://psychtoolbox.org/wikka.php?wakka=HomePage) is a free set of Matlab functions for vision research. It's designed to make it easy to synthesize and show accurately controlled visual stimuli and interact with the observer. PTB-3 is based on the Psychophysics Toolbox Version 2 (PTB-2) but its Matlab extensions (in C) were rewritten to be more modular and use OpenGL.

PsychReport

PsychReport (http://www.mdansby.com/Software/mdx_page2_MedicalSuitePsyG.html#_MDX005%...) provides a full range of clinical case- patient management functionality. It can handle an unlimited number of patients and clients.

Psyscope X

PsyScope (http://psy.ck.sissa.it/) is a program to design and run psychological experiments, used by many experimental labs.

RiddleMeThis

RiddleMeThis (http://loewald.com/) is a tool for creating, editing, and managing data produced by electronic questionnaires. It's designed specifically for research in the social sciences, and the forms can be deployed online (via most web servers) or as standalone kiosk applications running on Macs or PCs.

ShrinkRapt

ShrinkRapt (http://www.sanersoftware.com/) is a complete billing and insurance program that prepares client billing statements and completes the entire HCFA 1500 claim form for insurance filing. Other features include: referral source tracking,managed care alerts, bank deposit slips, insurance tracking, and session notes. An appointment scheduling module that is fully integrated with billing is also available.Technical support is free and available by phone, fax and e-mail.
