Real People Reviews: CX4200 all-in-on
The Scanner
I was surprised to see that this model, street priced at around $79 US, had a decent scanner for this price point. While not spectacular, it did perform well with a very brief warm up period. A 48-bit, 1200 x 2400 dpi spec does scan quickly and easily with the provided software and, especially if you use online electronic fax transmission, this would be a reasonable product on its own.
The Copier
Copying both black and white or color is very simple with simple controls on the top of the CX4200. Even as the output is a little heavy in terms of the ink, itself, on even 24 lb. Epson papers and Epson Professional glossy and matte papers, the copies are clear and surprisingly clean.
Beyond that, the CX4200 sports PictBridge direct connctions and the now expected individual color cartridges; however, even with all of this going for it, the output was simply adequate for day-to-day output and not really what one might expect from Epson. Yes, for the money, and assuming you need something this small to do this much, it is a better option than most similar items on the market. My feeling is that you might be better off saving the money and waiting until you can afford a bigger desk.
