Review: TechRestore upgrade options make Apple TV more useful
The company is offering pre-upgraded Apple TV systems for sale. These systems have been pre-configured with storage upgrades up to 160GB. The folks at TechRestore say the 160GB unit allows for up to 200 hours of video storage, 36,000 songs, 100,000 photos. I got my hands on one, and I'd say their estimates are pretty darn close. That much storage space makes it easy to back up your entire iTunes and iPhoto collection to the Apple TV, adding to its value. And I could tell no difference in performance between the TechRestore-enhanced Apple TV and a standard version in terms of set-up, ease-of-use and performance. It just makes the device bigger (storage, not size, wise) and better.
Prices start at $399 for an Apple TV with double the factory storage space. TechRestore includes a one-year warranty on upgraded Apple TV systems. Complete pricing is as follows -- Apple TV 80GB: $399; Apple TV 100GB: $419; Apple TV 120GB: $439; and Apple TV 160GB: $499.
If you already own an Apple TV, TechRestore offers a storage upgrade service. The overnight storage upgrade is available in 60GB-160GB options, offering up to 200 hours of video storage, up to 36,000 songs, up to 100,000 photos, with a 400 percent increase in storage capacity than the original Apple TV. Pricing for the new service includes all parts and installation into the customers Apple TV and starts at $99.99 for the 60GB upgrade option. You can elect to self-ship their Apple TV in for service or choose from our overnight door-to-door pickup service.
If you have an Apple TV, or plan to get one, I recommend looking into the biggest upgrade option you can afford. It simply makes the Apple TV a more useful, more flexible, device.
