Ripcord wants to make your desktop phone more like an iPhone

What's more, Apple co-founder Steve "Woz" Wozniak is on the the company's board of directors. Also on the board is Ellen Hancock, who was chief technology officer of Apple from July 1996 to July 1997.

Here's the company's mission statement: "To lead the revolution in end-to-end secure Unified Communications combining VoIP with a user-customizable operating system embodying government-grade security, extensibility, open standards and ease of use.

"Ripcord enables end-to-end secure communications for VoIP over fixed or mobile devices with software, hardware, and operating systems. Our Ripcord Canopy Operating System will be a critical component in the infrastructure of the unified communications revolution combining world class killer applications with emerging technologies at the cutting edge."

Ripcord has self-funded development of several technologies and licensed others. The company says it has agreements with customers and distribution partners which will be announced soon.

The company says its Ripcod CANOPY is the first operating system developed specifically for government and enterprise VoIP products. The company "envisions a family of products based upon a powerful operating system with patent-pending features to address Enterprise class fixed-mobile network productivity tools."
