UC Irvine offers iPhone app development course

Since the inception of Apple’s App Store in 2007, the number of applications available has jumped from 500 to 100,000 -- an increase of nearly 10,000%, says Dr. Dave Dimans, director of UC Irvine Extension’s engineering, sciences and information technology programs. UC Irvine Extension’s five-week course will offer participants a first-hand look into this burgeoning industry and the practical skills required to develop their own applications, he adds.

Starting Jan. 12, “Mobile Development for Apple iPhone and iTouch” will provide a general introduction to mobile programming; compare strategies from Apple, Blackberry and Microsoft; and discuss XCode development. In addition, participants will develop applications in Objective C and then test and deploy them to the iPhone. The course also will explore the integration of phone-specific features such as the accelerometer, touch screen, GEO positioning, sound and Web access.
