Start-up airline Virgin America has decided HTML is “good enough” for animating online content on its brand-new website, which went live Monday, dumping Flash, reports “The Register” (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/02/virgin_america_html_flash/).

Virgin picked HTML to give users of iPhones and other mobiles the option in the future of checking in through their phone. The battle between Adobe and Apple has seen Flash deliberately excluded from the Apple device. Chief information officer (CTO) Ravi Simhambhatla told The Register: “I don’t want to cater to one hardware or one software platform one way to another, and Flash eliminates iPhone users. This year is going to be the year of the mobile [for Virgin].”

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is no fan of Flash. He reportedly tried to convince “The Wall Street Journal” to ditch Flash and move to the iPad. Jobs said that Flash is a CPU hog, a source of security holes and a dying technology.
