VMIX announces full platform support for HTML 6

VMIX (http://www.vmix.com), an online video platform provider, has announced plans to be the world’s first video platform to take advantage of World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) HTML version 6 video standards.

Support for HTML6 builds on the company’s adherence to HTML5 video standards, which enable the VMIX platform to deliver video to mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad and Google’s Android.

“While HTML5 video dealt more broadly with opening up standards for video and providing an alternative to Flash, HTML6 will focus specifically on making those interactive, sense-driven aspects of video that we have only imagined a firm reality,” says Greg Kostello, founder and chief technical officer at VMIX.

In addition to addressing minor data-logging and SEO challenges found in HTML5, Kostello identified a handful of consumer features that he expects clients and their audiences will welcome with HTML6:

° Enriched 3D video for smartphones and other handheld devices.

° Retina-ID tracking, which allows video players to detect a viewer’s focal point on the screen surface. This capability can be used to display contextual advertising on-the-fly in focal areas, or dim regions of the screen that are outside a viewer’s focal scope, saving electricity and reducing emissions.

° Touch-sensitive video, which gives viewers the ability to nudge, drag or interrupt characters mid-scene with a touch of a finger.

Kostello noted that customer interest in HTML5 has been minimal until recently. “With the imminent release of the iPad, we’re seeing sudden interest in HTML5 from our clients who need to ensure a premium video experience for their audiences, regardless of what device they’re carrying. Fortunately, HTML5 support is part of our standard solution.”
