Upspace for OS X revved to version 1.0.1

Upspace (http://hello.upspace.co) has announced Upspace 1.0.1 for OS X. It’s an update to their menubar uploader for Dropbox. Using the Dropbox infrastructure, it was built specifically for those who need to share a lot of screenshots and files during the day.

Just choose a file and drag it to the menubar. Ups pace provides you with a short link automatically copied to your clipboard so that you can use to share your upload with co-workers and friends. Version 1.0.1 includes various bug fixes.

Apple updates its MacBook line

Apple has updated its tiny (two pounds and 13.1 mm thin) MacBook (www.apple.com/macbook) with the latest Intel processors, improved graphics performance, faster flash storage and an additional hour of battery life. Plus, its all-metal unibody enclosure is now available in four aluminum finishes — gold, silver, space gray, and for, the first time on a Mac, rose gold.

Developers can now apply for tickets for WWDC 2016

Apple will hold its 27th annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) from June 13 through 17 in San Francisco. Monday’s kickoff events, including the keynote address, will be held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. The rest of the week’s conference sessions will take place at Moscone West. 

“With four innovative operating systems [OS X, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS] and a new, intuitive programming language [Swift] powering over one billion devices worldwide, there has never been a more exciting time to bring our developer community together,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “WWDC 2016 is going to be a landmark event for developers who are coding in Swift, and building apps and products for iOS, OS X, watchOS and tvOS. Cronette for OS X revved to version 1.7.1

Tension Software has updated Cronette (http://pomola.com/products_cronette/cronette.html), a Cocoa task launcher for Macs and Mac servers, to version 1.7.1.

The app lets you specify tasks to be launched automatically by the Mac. It can be used on unattended Mac Servers or also on regular Mac workstations for tasks to execute during the night or for recurring tasks to be performed on a regular basis. It provides different type of launch tasks: daily, weekly, monthly, yearly.

ATTO announces OS X driver support for FastFrame 40GbE NICs

 ATTO Technology (www.attotech.com) has announced Mac OS X driver support for its FastFrame 40GbE Network Interface Cards. General availability for ATTO’s 40GbE OS X driver is expected in the third quarter of the year.

CalDigit previews Thunderbolt 3 RAID storage system

CalDigit (www.caldigitcom) has announced the T8, a Thunderbolt 3 RAID storage solution with 8-bays featuring capacities up to 48TB. It supports both 3.5-inch HDDs and 2.5-inch SSDs.

Kronos releases OpenCL 2.2 provisional spec

The Khronos Group, an open consortium of hardware and software companies, has announced the availability of the OpenCL 2.2, SYCL 2.2 and SPIR-V 1.1 provisional specifications.

OpenCL 2.2 incorporates the OpenCL C++ kernel language for enhanced parallel programming productivity. SYCL 2.2 enables host and device code to be contained in a single source file, while leveraging the full power of OpenCL C++. SPIR-V 1.1 extends the intermediate representation defined by Khronos with native support for shader and compute kernel features to fully support the OpenCL C++ kernel language.

Excel releases QLRT Xcode 3.0

Excel Software (www.excelsoftware.com) has announced QLRT Xcode 3.0 for Objective-C and Swift developers creating Mac OS X software.  

QLRT Xcode is a static library containing the QuickLicense runtime software for protection, activation and license management. Xcode programmers can protect their software from piracy and increase revenue by supporting a variety of license types, activation methods and advanced licensing features.

QLRT Xcode is used in conjunction with QuickLicense. The developer configures all aspects of the software license with QuickLicense and outputs a Ticket file.  That Ticket file is bound to an application when the QLRT library is dropped into the Xcode project and called with a function in the source code. Axure RP for Mac OS X and Windows updated to version 8

Axure Software Solutions (http://www.axure.com) has released Axure RP 8. It’s a solution for Mac OS X and Windows created to help teams design solutions to complex business challenges.

Date Time Calc for OS X upgraded to version 2.1

Tension Software (www.tensionsoftware.com) has updated Date Time Calc for Mac OS X to version 2.1. It’s an app to calculate future and past dates by adding a date interval and to calculate date difference between two assigned dates.

You can add or subtract to dates, years, months, and days — or add or subtract days, hours , minutes and seconds to guess future and past date-times. You can also calculate difference between two dates using calendar specification (years, months and days) or using a time precision method specifying date and time and obtaining a difference in days, hours, minutes and seconds.

With version 2.1, the log can collect and save all the calculation you need to record using a command button. Also, at any time you can clean the log by resetting it.

HoudahGeo for OS X 5.0 adds Places, drag and drop geocoding and...

Houdah Software (www.houdah.com) has introduced HoudahGeo 5.0 an upgrade to its one-stop photo geocoding solution for Mac OS X Yosemite and El Capitan.

The app "pins" photos to locations where they were taken. Just like a GPS-enabled camera, HoudahGeo embeds latitude, longitude and altitude information within the image file. It works with Photos, iPhoto, Aperture, and Adobe Lightroom. USB 3.0 group defines authentication protocol for USB Type-C

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group has announced the USB Type-C Authentication specification, defining cryptographic-based authentication for USB Type-C chargers and devices. USB-C is the port (the only one) on Apple’s 12-inch MacBook.

Using this protocol, host systems can confirm the authenticity of a USB device or USB charger, including such product aspects as the descriptors/capabilities and certification status. All of this happens right at the moment a wired connection is made – before inappropriate power or data can be transferred.
