RSS Follower is a new news reader app for OS X

Aperio Lux has introduced RSS Follower, a new Mac OS X app for reading news. It provides instruments to navigate through the news, as well as to download any attachments, podcasts, or other enclosures that you're interested in.

Using the built-in News Browser, users can not only read or share news, which were added through an RSS feed, but also move on to other news posted on the same news site

FastCut RT for Mac OS X dashes to version 3.1.8

Times for Fun has announced FastCut 3.1.8 RT for OS X. The app offers video editing in real-time.

FastCut brings 3D motion and effects keyframe animation, masking and keying, video transition and filter+special effects, an integrated ATSUI live title editor with title effects and more. Version 3.1.8 brings several new enhancements and bug fixes including an El Capitan compatibility issue.

Dell's buyout of EMC (and VMware) is the largest tech...

Dell is buying EMC, a cloud computing and storage company, for US$67 billion. It's the largest technology industry acquisition to date.

Dell, of course, makes Windows-based personal computers. EMC provides data storage, information security, virtualization, analytics, cloud computing and other products and services that enable businesses to store, manage, protect, and analyze data. VMware, which makes such products as VMmare Fusion (which allows users to run Windows on a Mac without rebooting), is a subsidiary of EMC.

iMovie for Mac OS X adds support for 4K video

Along with revving the iMac line with all Retina displays, Apple has updated iMovie for Mac OS X to version 10.1, adding support for creating, editing, and sharing movies at 4K resolution (3840 x 2160).

You can view pixel-for-pixel 4K video while editing a movie on an iMac with Retina 5K display. (4K export requires a Mac from 2011 or later with at least 4GB of RAM. Full resolution 4K display id supported on an iMac with Retina display or a Mac Pro (2013 or later) when connected to a 4K display.

According to Apple's notes, the upgrade allows you to:

° Create and share movies with 1080p HD video at 60 frames per second;

° Import movies and trailers from iMovie for iOS (version 2.2 and later), so you can start editing on an iOS device and finish on your Mac.

Ockham is a new analysis app for Mac OS X

Apple updates its entire iMac family

Apple has updated the entire iMac family, bringing a Retina 4K display to the 21.5-inch iMac for the first time and the Retina 5K display to every 27-inch iMac. The revved all-in-ones also sport more powerful processors and graphics, two Thunderbolt 2 ports and new storage options.

The 21.5-inch iMac is available with the all-new Retina 4K display featuring 4096 x 2304 resolution and 9.4 million pixels, 4.5 times more than the standard 21.5-inch iMac display. Every 27-inch iMac now comes with a Retina 5K display with 14.7 million pixels, seven times more pixels than an HD display.

The new Retina 5K and 4K displays feature a wider P3-based color gamut that provides a 25 percent larger color space, and with more available colors, images are more vivid, reveal even greater detail and appear more lifelike than ever, says Schiller.

IK Multimedia has announced iRig Keys 25, iRig Keys 37 and iRig Keys 37 PRO. These three new MIDI keyboard controllers are specifically designed with mobile Mac and PC musicians in mind.

Apple ebook antitrust monitoring coming to an end

The U.S. Justice Department said it’s satisfied that Apple has implemented reforms to comply with antitrust laws even though it fought with a monitor appointed to oversee its sale of electronic books, reports Bloomberg (

The government has recommended that the monitoring not be extended. In a letter to the Manhattan federal judge who found in 2013 that Apple illegally conspired with publishers to set e-book prices, the U.S. said Apple has “now implemented meaningful antitrust policies, procedures, and training programs that were obviously lacking at the time Apple participated in and facilitated the horizontal price-fixing conspiracy found by this court.”

The Justice Department said Apple “never embraced a cooperative working relationship with the monitor.” Apple acknowledged its relationship with the monitor was “rocky at times,” but disagreed that it wasn’t...

AKVIS Draw for OS X revved to version 3.0

AKVIS has introduced version 3.0 of AKVIS Draw for Mac OS X and Window. The software creates pencil drawings from photos.

Version 3.0 offers an improved photo to sketch effect, new tools and features. The image to drawing conversion algorithm has been totally reworked. The effect parameters have been changed. 
A new Refined Lines option lets you dynamically change the thickness of the strokes. In version 3.0, contours of the drawing look more accurately and precise. The program gives more control for changing the outlines of the image.

PFiddlesoft updates the PFAssistive Framework

PFiddlesoft has updated its PFAssistive Framework to version 3.5.0. The PFiddlesoft Frameworks are two frameworks that help developers write assistive Macintosh applications for persons with disabilities using Apple's Accessibility and Quartz Event Taps APIs (application programming interfaces) on OS X.

The PFAssistive Framework has been updated to add support for client applications that are written using the new Swift programming language. It also adds support for new accessibility features introduced by Apple late last month in OS X El Capitan, improved power, speed and efficiency, and a few minor bug fixes.

The frameworks are written using Objective-C. They support the Intel 64-bit architecture using reference counted memory management or ARC, and they support client applications written in Objective-C or Swift. BurningThumb Studios updates Virtual CD RW – Mac

BurningThumb Studios has released a new version of Virtual CD RW, its Mac virtual CD drive App. Version 2.0 of Virtual CD RW adds support for OS X El Capitan

It also fixed a problem where the Show in Finder menu item wasn't showing the bin/cue disk image files for a mounted image. Version 2.0 also improved responsiveness of the menu bar.

LinkOptimizer for Adobe InDesign Now Supports Mac OS X El Capitan

Zevrix Solutions has released LinkOptimizer 4.9.49, a compatibility update to its workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign.

LinkOptimizer allows to reduce InDesign link size and speed up processing by eliminating excess image data, perform essential image adjustments, convert image formats and more. The new version makes LinkOptimizer compatible with the recently released Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

Quark Software releases El Capitan update to QuarkXPress 2015

Quark Software has released the El Capitan Update to QuarkXPress 2015. With the El Capitan Update, QuarkXPress 2015 now officially supports the new OS X 10.11.
The update is Mac-only and free for all current QuarkXPress 2015 users. It can be downloaded using the built-in Auto Updater in QuarkXPress or downloaded here (

In addition to supporting OS X El Capitan, the new update to QuarkXPress addresses known issues and includes an even faster start-up time. Internal tests have shown the El Capitan Update launches in just over five seconds, nearly 60 percent faster than the previous version of QuarkXPress.

SIM-free iPhone 6s, 6s Plus models now available at Apple's...

Apple's online store ( is now offering SIM-free iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models. Pricing for the former starts at US$649 ($32.45 with Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program). Pricing for the latter begins at $749 ($37.45 per month with the upgrade program.

"The SIM-free iPhone comes without a wireless contract commitment or carrier financing. It doesn’t come with a nano-SIM card for iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or iPhone 5s," says Apple. "And because it’s unlocked, it isn’t tied to one carrier, so you can get a nano-SIM from any supported carrier worldwide, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or Sprint in the United States."

App Tamer for OS X ready for El Capitan

Bowers & Wilkins launches Zeppelin Wireless

Bowers & Wilkins has announced the Zeppelin Wireless, a redesign of its Zeppelin speaker system

For the Zeppelin Wireless the material and shape of the subwoofer has been altered with a larger 6.5-inch driver and an "ultra-long" voice coil to allow for deeper bass. It also boasts decoupled double-dome tweeters and FST midrange drivers.
