Intel's third quarter below expectations

Intel (http://www.intel.com) says third-quarter revenue will be below the company’s previous outlook. The company now expects third-quarter revenue to be US$11.0 billion, plus or minus $200 million, compared to the previous expectation of between $11.2 and $12.0 billion.

Revenue is being affected by weaker than expected demand for consumer computers in mature markets. Inventories across the supply chain appear to be in-line with the company’s revised expectations.

The company’s expectation for third-quarter gross margin is now 66%, plus or minus a point, lower than the previous expectation of 67%, plus or minus a couple of points. The impact of lower volume is being partially offset by slightly higher average selling prices stemming from solid enterprise demand.

Equity investments, interest and other is expected to be $175 million, consistent with the company’s revised expectation reported on Form...

Analyst: investors should sell Apple options

Investors should sell Apple options because “the best technology company on the planet” may gain from more iPhone sales outside of the U.S. and selling ads on mobile devices including the iPad, Gleacher & Co. told clients -- as noted by "Bloomberg" (http://macosg.me/2/sa).

Analyst Brian Marshall recommended selling Apple’s January 2012 US$230 puts, which fell 1.2 percent to $38.39 yesterday. Selling a put, which gives the right to sell, is a bet that the stock will rise, allowing the seller to keep the premium paid, notes "Bloomberg." The shares gained 1.2 percent to $242.89.

“The No. 1 driver of the stock over the next 12 months will be continued penetration into the smartphone segment, especially in the international market where their penetration is much less compared with the U.S.,” Marshall said in an interview with "Bloomberg."
