Select Apple Specialists to sell the iPad

Everyone knows that Best Buy will be selling the new iPad. However, most folks may not realize that select Apple Specialist locations in the US will also be selling the iPad on release
date.

Through a nondisclosure agreement, Apple is not allowing these resellers from doing any pre-advertising or tell customers they will be carrying the iPad products, Joe Weingarten, executive director, Macintosh Reseller Association, tells "MacNews."

Apple Specialists are locally owned and operated Apple resellers, most have been operating long before Apple opened their own retail stores.

"At this time we are unable to provide specific locations that have been approved by Apple, Inc.," to carry the iPad," Weingarten says.

Sprint touts Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot for the iPad, iPod...

Sprint says it's the only national wireless service with 4G speeds for any Wi-Fi enabled device, such as the iPod touch and iPad.

With the Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot, you can surf the web on your new iPad up to 10 times faster than 3G or turn your iPod touch with Skype into a voice phone and make a call, says Matt Carter, president of Sprint 4G. Not only does the Overdrive enhance everything your favorite device was built for, it also connects up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices such as your computer, game console or camera, he adds.

“When coupled with Sprint’s 4G technology, any Wi-Fi-enabled device will be faster than 3G,” Carter says. “It will be six months to a year or longer before any other national wireless carrier can connect a Wi-Fi-enabled tablet like the iPad with up to four more wireless devices simultaneously at 4G speeds like the Overdrive can do today.”

Currently, Sprint 4G covers 28 major markets such as Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago,...

VMIX announces full platform support for HTML 6

VMIX (http://www.vmix.com), an online video platform provider, has announced plans to be the world’s first video platform to take advantage of World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) HTML version 6 video standards.

Support for HTML6 builds on the company’s adherence to HTML5 video standards, which enable the VMIX platform to deliver video to mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad and Google’s Android.

“While HTML5 video dealt more broadly with opening up standards for video and providing an alternative to Flash, HTML6 will focus specifically on making those interactive, sense-driven aspects of video that we have only imagined a firm reality,” says Greg Kostello, founder and chief technical officer at VMIX.

In addition to addressing minor data-logging and SEO challenges found in HTML5, Kostello identified a handful of consumer features that he expects clients and their audiences will welcome with HTML6:

Study: iPad could eventually replace Windows computers for some

According to a new poll conducted by ORC (http://www.opinionresearch.com), an Infogroup Company, the vast majority of US consumers (71%) are familiar with Apple’s iPad. Six percent plan on buying one within a year, equating to a sale of about seven million units, and 1% said they will purchase one as soon as it becomes available, which would translate to a sale of approximately one million units.

The findings in ORC’s survey correspond closely with market analyst predictions that five million iPads will be sold in 2010. Based on the results of ORC’s research, it is clear that a significant number of tech-hungry consumers are interested in an iPad in the short-term, but what does this mean for the long-term success of the product?

“Adoption of new technologies is often a slow and gradual process,” says Kevin Wood, vice president and senior analyst with ORC’s technology practice. “It...

Music industry sources: no iTunes Replay before the third...

Music industry sources told "CNET" (http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-20001480-261.html) this week Apple has informed label managers that a streaming music service is unlikely to be ready before the third quarter.

Some had hoped such a service might arrive when Apple unveiled the iPad tablet in January, but it didn't. "CNET" says that same month, Apple executives spoke to the major record labels about enabling people to store their music on the company's servers and access their songs with web-enabled devices. At that point, music-industry insiders speculated that Apple's new service might debut early this year.

"Besides a later-than-hoped-for start to Apple's streaming, all of this also means that music -- which has typically played an important role in most of Apple's culture-changing devices -- will be bumped to the sidelines with the iPad...
