MetaEdit+ 5.1 brings graphical DSLs for collaborative development

MetaCase has released a new version of its Domain-Specific Modeling and code generation tool, MetaEdit+.  MetaEdit+ 5.1 is aimed at expert developers who want to empower their team to generate efficient, complete code directly from domain-specific models, says Dr. Juha-Pekka Tolvanen, CEO of MetaCase.
 
MetaEdit+ lets language engineers create graphical domain-specific languages and code generators. The new version offers collaboration for both language creation and use: multiple team members can define domain-specific modeling languages together and share them instantly to the whole team. NetShred X is ready for Mac OS X Yosemite

Cartographer is the first GeoJSON editor on the Mac App Store

False Victories has announced Cartographer 1.0 (http://tinyurl.com/m7gu5vb), a new maps app for Mac OS X (10.9 or later). It's available at the Mac App Store in the Developer Tools Section for US$13.99.

Cartographer allows developers to add annotations to maps without the need to enter coordinates by hand. The app has been designed to work with Apple's MapKit framework on both OS X and iOS.

The Cartographer file format supports all the features of Cartographer. Developers can use the free CocoaPod CartographerKit to integrate it into their own applications.

Ohanaware releases App Wrapper 3.0 for OS X

Ohanaware has released version 3.0 of App Wrapper, an app store preparation tool designed to simplify the process of preparing applications for submission to the Mac App Store and deploying on web sites.

App Wrapper features a GUI [graphical user interface] for adding the required App Store properties, creating high resolution icons, code signing an application (and it's components), correcting the permissions of files within the bundle, placing an app into a App Sandbox and packaging it in a signed installer or creating a zip file.

App Wrapper 3 requires Mac OS X Yosemite anda is available from the Ohanaware web site (www.ohanaware.com). There are three pricing options:

Seagate unveils object-based storage drive

Seagate has unveiled its object-based storage drive— the Seagate Kinetic HDD. Based on the Seagate Kinetic Open Storage platform, Kinetic HDD combines an open source object storage protocol with Ethernet connectivity to eliminate multiple layers of legacy software and hardware infrastructure.

Scott Horn, Seagate vice president of marketing at Seagate, says this simplifies cloud storage architectures. Fewer number of storage servers also reduces power consumption and headcount expenses associated with managing storage, resulting in lower operating costs, for a combined savings of up to 50%, he adds.

The platform enables servers and storage to be scaled independently and developed more rapidly. Cloud data centers can add servers and storage at entirely different rates, matching each precisely to their needs. In addition, HDD innovation can progress more rapidly as servers and operating systems are shielded from device changes through the Kinetic open source API. (...

Brainwaves for Mac OS X revved to version 1.3

Brainwaves (www.unexplainablestore.com) for Mac OS X has been revved to version 1.3. It's an audio brain stimulation app that uses Isochronic Tones and Binaural Beats "to bring the user into altered states of mind."

The tones and audio recordings in the Brainwaves app have been created at 320 kbps. Brainwaves is designed to be used as a sleep aid, dream inducer, creativity booster, and more.

Microsoft has announced the new Outlook for the Mac, which the company says delivers improved performance and reliability and a fresh look and feel "that is unmistakably Microsoft Office." According to Microsoft, the new Outlook for Mac includes:

° Better performance and reliability as a result of a new threading model and database improvements.

° A new modern user interface with improved scrolling and agility when switching between Ribbon tabs.
° Online archive support for searching Exchange (online or on-premises) archived mail.

° Master Category List support and enhancements delivering access to category lists (name and color) and sync between Mac, Windows and OWA clients.

° Office 365 push email support for real-time email delivery.

LinkOptimizer optimized for Mac OS X Yosemite

Zevrix Solutions (www.zevrix.com) has announced LinkOptimizer 4.9.28, a maintenance update to its workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign.

LinkOptimizer lets you reduce the size of InDesign links and speed up processing by eliminating excess image data, performing essential image adjustments and converting file formats. The new version delivers Mac OS X Yosemite compatibility.

Cocktail (Yosemite Edition) revved to version 8.0.1

Maintain has served up Cocktail 8.0.1 (http://cocktail.maintain.se), a new version of its Mac OS X utility that's compatible with Yosemite. It addresses an issue in which Cocktail may fail to clear DNS cache, fixes compatibility issues with EtreCheck and contains other bug fixes and improvements.

Seth Rogen to play Steve 'Woz' Wozniak

Seth Rogen will play Steve Wozniak alongside Christian Bale, who has been cast in the role of Steve Jobs in Sony’s upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, reports "Variety" (http://bit.ly/1vltQvl).

The film is based on Walter Isaacson’s book and adapted by Aaron Sorkin, writer of "West Wing," "The Social Network," and more.  Steve Jobs will be the second film based on the life of the late Apple co-founder and CEO. Worldwide tablet market grows 11.5% in the third quarter

The worldwide tablet grew 11.5% year over year in the third quarter of 2014 (3Q14) with shipments reaching 53.8 million units according to preliminary data from the IDC research group (www.idc.com). Apple remains the number one tablet vendor.

Marked by back-to-school promotions and US appetite for connected tablets, the third quarter also saw shipments grow sequentially by 11.2% compared to 2Q14.

"Not only is the US market one of the largest for tablets, but third quarter results also indicate that this is where the growth is," says Jean Philippe Bouchard, IDC Research Director for tablets. "We saw Verizon continuing to sell connected tablets at a fast pace, a strategy that we believe other carriers will replicate in following quarters. Apple smartphone shipments grow 16.1% year-over-year

New smartphone releases and an increased emphasis on emerging markets drove global smartphone shipments above 300 million units for the second consecutive quarter, according to the IDC research group (www.idc.com). With the introduction of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple posted its largest third quarter volume ever and saw its smartphone shipments rise 16.1% year-over-year.

According to preliminary data from IDC, vendors shipped a total of 327.6 million units during the third quarter of 2014 (3Q14), resulting in 25.2% growth when compared to the 261.7 million units shipped in 3Q13 and 8.7% sequential growth above the 301.3 million units shipped in 2Q14.

Scannerz ready for Mac OS X Yosemite

Software and Computer System Company (SCSC) has released a new version (1.9) of Scannerz (http://www.scsc-online.com) for Mac OS X. It's a hard drive, SSD, and system analysis tool.

The new version of Scannerz now includes the new Performance Probe 2 as well as Phoenix and FSE. This new release is Yosemite compatible and remains compatible with previous Mac OS X down through Mac OS X10.5.

InPreflight Pro soars to Mac OS X Yosemite readiness

 Zevrix Solutions (www.zevrix.com) has announced InPreflight Pro 2.11.13, a compatibility update to its document preparation solution for Adobe InDesign. The new version adds Mac OS X Yosemite compatibility.

Logitech announces Keys-to-Go keyboard for the iPad

Logitech (www.logitech.com) has unveiled the new Logitech Keys-To-Go, a slender, stand-alone Bluetooth keyboard for any iPad.

It's small enough to tuck into your purse, briefcase or coat pocket without taking up too much space, says Michele Hermann, vice president of mobility at Logitech. Its keys give you the tactile feedback you’re used to on your laptop, but are fused into a water-repellant FabricSkin covering that helps protect the keyboard from spills and dirt, he adds.

The rechargeable battery can last up to three months on a complete charge. The keyboard is compatible with all generations of the iPad and iPad mini and is available in three colors – black, red and teal – for a suggested retail price of US$69.99.
