Fileloupe is a new media browser for Mac OS X

Corduroy Code has released Fileloupe 1.0 (http://www.fileloupe.com), a new media browser for Mac OS X Yosemite.

It combines the features of a photo viewer, video player and document browser into a single tool. Harnessing the power of Apple's Quick Look technology, Fileloupe offers users one of the fastest ways to browse, view and share photos, videos, PDFs and documents, according to Kenny Carruthers, founder of Corduroy Code and developer of Fileloupe.

The app offers copy & paste and drag & drop support for inserting images into third-party applications. There's support for most common image formats including RAW photos.

Output Factory Server for Adobe InDesign now supports CC 2015

Zevrix Solutions has released Output Factory Server 1.2.1, a compatibility update to its output workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign.

Output Factory Server automates printing and exporting from InDesign by processing files from hot folders. The software offloads output tasks to a central system leaving operator workstations free from the output process. Version 1.2.1 makes Output Factory Server compatible with the 2015 release of InDesign CC featured as part of Adobe Creative Cloud.

Output Factory Server can be purchased from the Zevrix web site (www.zevrix.com) for a reduced price of US$299.95 until July 31 (it's $699.95 afterwards), as well as from authorized resellers. PipelineFX’s Qube! now available in one-month installments

PipelineFX has added a subscription licensing option to Qube! render farm management software for visual effects. This new option can be limited to a single one-month installment.

Apple releases iTunes 12.2 for the Mac, Windows

Apple has released iTunes 12.2 for the Mac,adding support for its new Apple Music service. According to the update description in the Mac App Store — where you can obtain the update in the, well, Updates section, the upgrade includes the following Apple Music features:

° For You music recommendations;

° Radio, including Beats 1;

° New, which highlights new music curated by Apple’s music editors;

° My Music, where you find your purchased music, imported songs, and selections you’ve picked in Apple Music;

° Connect, the venue for artists to reach out to fans.

iTunes 12.2 requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later.

Apple releases GarageBand 10.1 for the Mac, Security Updates

Apple has updated GarageBand, its music creation software for the Mac, to version 10.1. It adds 10 new EDM (electronic dance music) and hip hop drummers, 20 new electronic drum kits, 100 new EDM and Hip Hop synthesizer patches, new Morph Pad Smart Control, and 1,000 new loops to support all those new genres.

GarageBand 10.1 is available at the Mac App Store. It's free for existing users and those who've bought a recent Mac. It's US$4.99 for others.

Apple has also posted Security Update 2015-005 Mavericks and Security Update 2015-005 Mountain Lion. They're part of OS X 10.10.4, but have been released as standalone updates for the older versions of OS X. The download installers are available at the Mac App Store.

Tropical Software rolls out iAddressX 3.6 for OS X

Tropical Software has rolled out iAddressX 3.6, an update of the Mac OS X (10.7 or higher) utility.

You can use iAddressX to navigate contacts from a small icon in the system menu, and to initiate various tasks including printing of Dymo labels, dialing regular and Skype calls, sending SMS messages to Skype pals or friend's cell phones, and more. Version 3.6.0 adds an option to show Contacts by Group as a sub-menu, or in the main menu (it's recommended that you enable Contacts by Group if you have many Groups).

It boasts a major rewrite of many parts of the code that was originally designed for OS X 10.5 Leopard and older. iAddressX was a Mac OS X Preference Pane. With version 3.6, it's now an app installed as a status item in the menu bar

VidConvert for Mac OS X gets revamped user interface, more

Reggie Ashworth has unveiled VidConvert 1.6 (http://www.reggieashworth.com/vidconvert), a Yosemite (and El Capitan) update to his video converter for Mac OS X.

Apple releases Mac OS X 10.10.4 with Mail, Photos improvements,...

Apple has released Mac OS X 10.10.4, which includes improvements for Photos and Mail. It also fixes several bugs (including the "discoveryd" service).

According to Apple, the update:

° Improves networking reliability;

° Improves Migration Assistant reliability;

° Addresses an issue that prevented certain monitors from functioning properly;

° Improves the reliability of upgrading iPhoto and Aperture libraries to Photos;

° Improves reliability when syncing photos and videos to the iCloud Photo Library;

° Addresses and issue that causes Photos to quit unexpectedly after importing some Leica DNG files;

° Resolves an issue that could delay outgoing email messages in Mail;

° Fixes an issue where a website could prevent the user from navigating away by presenting repeated JavaScript alerts in Safari.

Apple will replace Mac laptop batteries that don't retain...

Apple is now replacing non-removable laptop batteries that retain less than 80% of their original charge under the AppleCare Protection Plan. The change applies to the MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

In a support document (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204054), Apple says: "Your Apple One Year Limited Warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. If you purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan for your Mac notebook with a non-removable battery, Apple will replace the notebook battery at no charge if it retains less than 80 percent of its original capacity. If you don't have coverage, you can have the battery replaced for a fee."

Registration is open for annual Apple Camp for kids

Registration is now open for Apple's annual Apple Camp (http://www.applersvp.com) three-day workshops where kids ages 8 to 12 can "bring their imaginations to life" with apps such as iMovie and iBooks.

According to Apple, they'll learn to make movies or create interactive books complete with their own illustrations and sound effects. Kids will storyboard ideas, shoot video, create an original soundtrack in GarageBand on an iPad, and then edit it all together in iMovie on a Mac.

Campers will also create their own interactive books. They'll draw illustrations using an iPad, then add sound effects and Multi-Touch features using iBooks Author on a Mac.

Typinator 6.6 for Mac OS X handles smart substitutions even...

With the release of version 6.6, Ergonis Software (www.ergonis.com) celebrates the 10th anniversary of Typinator, their text expander. Along with this release, Ergonis Software has published two new Typinator sets for easy access to the symbols in the new Apple Color Emoji font introduced in OS X Yosemite 10.10.3.

InPreflight for Adobe InDesign now supports Creative Cloud 2015

Zevrix Solutions has launched InPreflight Pro 2.11.17, a compatibility update to its document preparation solution for Adobe InDesign.

InPreflight is an all-in-one solution to check InDesign documents for errors, automatically collect multiple files for output and ship them to final destination. The new version makes InPreflight compatible with the 2015 release of InDesign CC featured as part of Adobe Creative Cloud.

Soundtrap announces online collaborative music recording studio

Soundtrap has launched what it says is the first online music and audio recording studio where users can find and collaborate with people from all over the world on a multitude of devices across iOS, Android, Chrome OS, Mac OS X,and Windows platforms.

It lets users record a tune or podcast by accessing a browser across multiple platforms.  Coming out of beta, Soundtrap has also announced US$1 million in seed funding and the commercial availability of its platform. 

Soundtrap is currently in use in 150 U.S. schools and the platform has grown from 20,000 to 120,000 users in 175 countries in just five months, according to CEO Per Emanuelsson. He adds that the platform was developed using only HTML5 technologies and it is fully cloud-based for all devices.

Tablet shipments experience largest decline since 2009 category...

For branded tablets, the year 2015 is off to a rocky start. For the first time since inception, the popular consumer item experienced its largest QoQ [quarter-over-quarter] decline to date of 35%. In addition, tablets experienced its largest YoY [year-over-year] decline of 16%.

According to marketing intelligence firm ABI Research (www.abiresearch.com), there is no denying the market is losing its momentum and leading vendors are feeling the squeeze. Apple and Samsung have been key market players and continue to dominate a significant majority of the tablet market.

"2015 is the pivotal year for smaller, competing vendors to step-up, build their business, and gain market share in advanced and emerging markets," says Senior Practice Director Jeff Orr. "The tablet market lacks a truly competitive playing field needing a strong third even fourth vendor to drive the market out of stagnation."

Cale announces Apple Pay enabled pay stations

Cale, which specializes in unattended payment technology for parking and transit operations, will begin offering secure contactless card readers that accept Apple Pay for its Cale WebTerminal pay stations (CWT) in July.

The technology will be demonstrated next week at the International Parking Institute's annual convention and trade show in Las Vegas. Cale's contactless payment option will allow customers to pay using their iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or Apple Watch.

The new contactless reader selected by Cale is also capable of accepting other NFC mobile wallets and will help Cale's customers prepare for the upcoming shift by card-issuing banks to more secure EMV transactions from the current mag-stripe card technology, says Andreas Jansson, managing director for Cale's largest subsidiary, Cale America. He added that the new Apple Pay enabled readers are a game changer for the parking and transit payment industries.

Ableton upgrades its Live music production software to version 9...

Ableton (www.ableton.com) has released Live 9.2, an update of the Mac-compatible music production software.

This free update includes refinements to Live’s audio warping engine, the introduction of latency-compensated automation, a new Tuner device, and more. Owners of Push gain the ability to use all 64 pads to play drums, improved aftertouch, and expanded touchstrip implementation. In addition, Max For Live now includes Max 7, the latest, most powerful version of Max.

Coinciding with the release of Live 9.2, Ableton is also making available a free new Pack specially optimized to make extensive use of Push’s new 64 pad functionality. Assembled by finger-drummer Mad Zach, the 64 Pad Lab contains five Racks’ worth of high-quality drum samples, percussion, loops, and one shots.

SmartBackup 3.4 for OS X gets an updated sync engine, more

Solesignal has announced SmartBackup 3.4, an update to their alternative backup and cloning utility for Mac OS X (10.8 or later).

It syncs multiple source items to a destination on an external hard drive, flashdrive or network share. SmartBackup features a 64-bit sync engine built on the latest Apple technologies. Version 3.4 adds an updated sync engine, user interface improvements, bug fixes and more.
