Mac OS X updated to version 10.9.5

Apple has released Mac OS X 10.9.5. The company says it improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac. This update:

° Improves the reliability of VPN connections that use USB smart cards for authentication;

° Improves the reliability of accessing files located on an SMB server;

° Includes Safari 7.0.6.

Apple says that, for enterprise content, this update:

° Fixes an issue with group membership in large network groups, that also might prevent administrators from performing some administrative tasks successfully.

° Allows for faster authentication when roaming on 802.1x networks which use EAP-TLS.

Mac OS X 10.9.5 is available at the Mac App Store or via the Software Updates component of the Systems Preferences app.

Swaive announces 'intelligent' Bluetooth thermometer

Swaive Corp. has developed the Swaive Thermometer, an "intelligent" Bluetooth-connected ear thermometer. It communicates with an iPhone and iPad app that analyzes temperatures and provides vital information to monitor the health of the family, and syncs with Apple's HealthKit.

All readings can be instantly shared with physicians, nurses, parents, caretakers, and spouses allowing remote monitoring of critical trends. The Swaive Thermometer automatically connects to iPhones and iPads using Bluetooth to track and monitor an individual's temperature reading in their unique profile. Temperature readings are automatically displayed and logged using the free Swaive Thermometer app to time stamp each temperature reading and chart trends against the normal temperature range for each user's age.

Avenza releases Geographic Imager 4.5 for Adobe Photoshop

Apple announces record pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6...

Apple has announced a record number of first day pre-orders of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, with over four million in the first 24 hours.

Demand for the new iPhones exceeds the initial pre-order supply. While a significant amount will be delivered to customers beginning on Friday and throughout September, many iPhone pre-orders are scheduled to be delivered in October. Additional supply of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available to walk-in customers on Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 a.m. local time at Apple retail stores.

Customers are encouraged to arrive early or order online from the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com) to pickup in-store or receive an estimated delivery date. Both models will also be available on Friday from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, additional carriers and select Apple Authorized Resellers.

Image Viewer for Mac OS X revved to version 1.8

Abacus has released Image Viewer 1.8, an upgrade of the Mac OS X app for viewing images and photos for an entire library.

Users can open a file and then view all image files in that folder by clicking the mouse or pressing the keyboard. Version 1.8 fixes a sandbox error that made it difficult for some users to delete images.

Privacy Scan ready for Mac OS X Yosemite

SecureMac has released PrivacyScan 1.6, an update of the Mac privacy software. The upgrade adds improved compatibility with future versions of Mac OS X (such as Yosemite) and also adds additional Firefox web browser support and fixes.

PrivacyScan will notify Google Chrome, Chromium and Firefox users when their browser is configured to sync with Google’s servers, which can restore erased data. PrivacyScan will also add the capability to clean open windows in many popular apps.

eMedia announces Masters of Rock guitar software

eMedia (eMediaMusic.com) has released Media Masters of Rock Guitar, software for learning how to play some of rock’s greatest songs.

It teaches songs made famous by Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn and more. All guitar parts are shown in tab and standard notation with Animated Fretboard, variable-speed playback and looping selections of transcribed material. You can even remove the guitar or bass and jam with the band.

‘Internet Slowdown’ launches across the web

Cortado's cloud printing solution comes to the Mac

Cortado, maker of the ThinPrint Cloud Print cloud printing solution, has released a version for Mac users. Now Macs are also able to send print jobs from the cloud to any printer that has been designated a Cloud Printer.

The Mac app complements the Cortado apps already available for iPhones, iPads, Android and Windows devices. With the free app, Mac users can print their documents from anywhere via the cloud. For example, they can use their Mac to print while mobile to a home or office printer. LaCie d2 Thunderbolt 2 features new design, SSD upgrade

LaCie (www.lacie.com) has announced the latest evolution of its d2 desktop storage line. The latest LaCie d2 features a new all-aluminum unibody enclosure, dual Thunderbolt 2, and USB 3.0.

Plus, LaCie designed the d2 Thunderbolt 2 to be upgradable to the fastest SSD on the market, which boosts speeds up to 1150 MB/s. It combines the latest interfaces and a Seagate 6 TB 7200 RPM professional hard disk, resulting in speeds of up to 220 MB/s.

'I know countries' 1.3 leverages Apple Maps

Grapevine-cottage has given us "I know countries" 1.3 for Mac OS X. The app leverages full Apple Maps support to provide a user experience while navigating.

The map responds to a mouse click and highlights country boundaries and area, drops a pin at the capital location and shows a callout with flag, while speaking the country name and capital name.

The app supports all map types standard, satellite and hybrid, as well as the standard map navigation features for apps, including 3D mode at applicable map and zoom levels. All map details are available to the user, supporting direct drilldown to city street level.

Pagico for Desktop for OS X revved to version 6.8

NOTES17 has launched Pagico for Desktop 6.8 (http://www.pagico.com/), an update to their information and task manager app for Mac OS X.
