Microsoft’s OneDrive reducing free storage from 15GB to 5GB

Microsoft is making some changes to OneDrive (https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/), its file hosting service that allows users to sync files and later access them from a web browser or mobile device.

The amount of free storage that comes with OneDrive will change from 15 GB to 5 GB. Microsoft is also discontinuing the 15 GB camera roll bonus.

As a result of these changes, you will be over your OneDrive storage limit on Aug. 10. To bring your account within the new limits, you can purchase additional storage or choose to remove some files.

Tension Software updates String Replacer for OS X to version 1.3

Tension Software (www.tensionsoftware.com) has upgraded String Replacer for Mac OS X to version 1.3.

The app allows users to find and replace a list of strings inside files and folders directly or in batch mode. It works with just a single click or by using drag and drop.

Hazel 4 for Mac OS X introduces new preview feature

Noodlesoft has announced Hazel 4, an update to its housekeeping utility for Mac OS X.

The utility watches whatever folders you tell it to, automatically organizing your files according to the rules you create. LiveCode 8 adds new plug-in architecture

CoreCode teams releases TableEdit spreadsheet for Mac OS X

The CoreCode team has announced TableEdit, a spreadsheet app for Mac OS X. It offers features such as charts with cell styling, formatting options, and comprehensive import/export capabilities.

TableEdit features a “world-class” Excel-compatible formula system that has been tested on more than a million formulae from over 20,000 Excel-files, according to Samuel Vimes of the CoreCode team. The tool is built exclusively for OS X and takes full advantage of its latest features and technologies, he adds.

Micromat’s MacCheck is new problem-solving and diagnostic utility

Micromat, the company behind the TechTool Pro line of software, has released a new troubleshooting utility called MacCheck. The new product can perform a series of critical tests on Mac systems running OS X 10.6 or higher, helping to isolate what might be wrong with a particular computer.

Retrospect: 52% of small businesses have suffered data loss

A new survey sponsored by Retrospect (www.retrospect.com), makes of Retrospect Backup & Recovery software, finds that more than half of small businesses have suffered data loss, through accident, loss, failure, theft, or disaster. The survey was conducted with Google Consumer Surveys across a sample of 1,000 small businesses.
 
The survey respondents reported accidents to be the most common form of data loss at 36%. Behind that, they reported loss at 21%, theft at 15%, disaster at 7%, and other at 6%. Under “Other,” respondents included "drive failure,”manufacturer erasing the hard drive during a warranty repair” and "employees doing things they shouldn’t.” And with the ability to select more than one form of data loss, 2% reported that they were unlucky enough to suffer from all four types.

MailButler for OS X Mail gets Follow-Up feature

MailButler (https://www.feingeist.io/mailbutler), the Apple Mail assistant by Feingeist Software GmbH, has added a new feature on its list.
