LinkOptimizer update addresses resolution handling

Zevrix Solutions ( has released LinkOptimizer 4.4.2, an update of its workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign. The new version addresses an important issue related to resolution handling.

LinkOptimizer lets you reduce InDesign job size and speed up processing by eliminating excess image data and performing essential image adjustments.

Apple Store Fayette Mall to open July 24

Apple will open a new retail store in Lexington, Kentucky, this Saturday, July 24.

Apple Store Haywood Mall ( is located at 3401 Nicolasville, Road, Suite 303, Lexington, Kentucky 40503. The grand opening will be from 10 am to 9 pm. Regular store hours haven't yet been announced.

Apple Store Haywood Mall will be the company's 295th retail store. Apple plans to open another 18 or so during this fiscal year, with about half of those outside the U.S.

Apple takes top spot in Q2 Media Impact Value ranks

Media measurement technology firm, General Sentiment, has released its quarterly Top 20 report highlighting the brands that made the biggest media impact for the quarter. Apple topped General Sentiment's Impact Value rankings this quarter on the strength of its iPad and iPhone 4 product releases.

Google fell to the number three spot despite generating record levels of discussion for the brand.  This marks the fourth quarterly analysis of its kind by General Sentiment, whose premier report was for the third quarter of 2009. General Sentiment also announced the launch of a new media value metric called Perception Value, which measures the brand with a greater emphasis on the quality of the content and exposure.

GEAR4 announces line of portable audio solutions for the iPod,...

PulpMotion upgrade for Mac OS X offers new photo frame theme

Aquafadas ( has updated PulpMotion and PulpMotion Advanced, slideshow and animation software for Mac OS X 10.5 ("Leopard") or later, to version 3.1. The new versions offers a new photo frame theme and a brand new version of animated books.

With all these new features there are now more than 190 themes available in PulpMotion Advanced, including 30 new wedding themes.

PFiddlesoft Frameworks updated

PFiddlesoft has updated the PFiddlesoft Frameworks, Cocoa frameworks for writing assistive applications for persons with disabilities using Apple's Accessibility and Quartz Event Taps APIs on Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6.

The PFiddlesoft Frameworks were upgraded today to include the PFAssistive Framework version 3.1.1 and the PFEventTaps Framework 1.3.1. Both frameworks can now be used with an assistive application that runs as a trusted accessibility process, so that its user does not have to turn on the global "Enable access for assistive devices" setting in the Universal Access pane of System Preferences.

Apple explains its location collection info practices

Apple told Congress it collects location information about users of the iPhone, iPad and Mac computers in batches and encrypts it before sending it over a WiFi connection from the device to Apple's servers every 12 hours, reports "eWeek" (

Spootnik launches a web front end for OmniFocus MacOS/iOS app

Apple donates MacPaint source code to Computer History Museum

The source code for MacPaint, the drawing program that shipped with the first Mac in 1984, is going on display at the Computer History Museum ( in Mountain View California on Tuesday. Apple donated the code, along with the code for QuickDraw, to the museum.

MacPaint is the drawing program application which interacts with the user, interprets mouse and keyboard requests, and decides what is to be drawn where. The high-level logic is written in Apple Pascal, packaged in a single file with 5,822 lines. There are an additional 3,583 lines of code in assembler language for the underlying Motorola 68000 microprocessor, which implement routines needing high performance and some interfaces to the operating system.

Apple releases iBooks 1.1.1

Apple has updated iBooks, its ebook/PDF reader, to version 1.1.1. You can now zoom in on any image and see it in high resolution.

It also offers performance tweaks for reading PDFs. What's more, iBooks 1.1.1 lets you look up definitions to English words inside books without a specified language and fixes some bugs.

Yankee Group: courting Apple owners is good business

Approximately 1.7 million consumers bought iPhone 4s in its first three days of sale, sending Apple more than US$1 billion in revenue. Research from Yankee Group ( shows that those same consumers will be worth more than $1.8 billion to AT&T this year, and more than $9 billion to it over the next five years.

Canon releases new printers, scanners

Canon USA ( has announced five new PIXMA printers with a new Full High Definition (HD) Movie Print feature and two new scanners.

FileMaker unveils FileMaker Go for the iPhone, iPad

FileMaker Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Apple, has announced FileMaker Go for iPhone and FileMaker Go for iPad, which let users work remotely with FileMaker Pro databases on the Apple devices.

With FileMaker Go -- available as two separate apps for iPhone or iPad -- users can view, edit and search for information in FileMaker databases on their iPhone or iPad. The apps provide access to databases created with FileMaker Pro and hosted on FileMaker Server or FileMaker Pro.

Mobile pros favor the iPhone over the Android

Egnyte, a provider of cloud file server solutions, has announced Egnyte Everywhere, a new mobile suite that allows business users to access and share their business files from leading smartphones, including iPhone, Android and Blackberry, as well as the new iPad. And research by the company shows the popularity of the Apple idevices.

The iPhone app leverages iOS 4 in providing off-line access to files including support for iTunes file sharing. The announcement coincides with the release of a new national study on mobility and data access while on the road.
