Typinator for Mac OS X is now scriptable

Ergonis Software has launched Typinator 6.7, a new version of their text expander for Mac OS X 10.6 or newer. The upgrade is scriptable. This means that you can control many aspects of Typinator via AppleScript or JavaScript.

Typinator 6.7 also expands the range of possibilities for using scripts in your expansions. Scripts can now be stored in compiled form. In addition to AppleScript, these scripts can now also be written in JavaScript.

Output Factory for Adobe InDesign now supports OS X El Capitan

Zevrix Solutions has announced Output Factory 1.5.39, a compatibility update to its output automation solution from Adobe InDesign.

Output Factory automates printing, exporting and preflighting of InDesign documents, and offers batch output, single page export, variable file names, layer versioning, detailed history and more. The new version makes Output Factory compatible with the recently released Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and is offered as a free update to licensed users.

Output Factory can be purchased from the Zevrix website ( for US$169.95 (a "lite" version is available for $120). A demo is available for download. BatchOutput users can upgrade to Output Factory for $84.97. Output Factory requires Mac OS X 10.6-10.11 and works with Adobe InDesign CS3-CC 2015.

Brawer Software has introduced uBar 3.0, an update to their app and window manager for Mac OS X 10.9 and higher. The app allows users to quickly launch and manage their apps, all via a convenient visual interface.

NetSpot, a wireless network survey app for the Mac, has been revved to version 2.4.

The update includes three new features: AP indicators in three new sizes, option to export only the surveyed part of your map, and the ability to copy network's name MAC-address into clipboard. 177 commercial use fonts added to Premium Fonts Collection

128bit Technologies has added 177 new commercial use fonts to its Premium Fonts collection on the Mac App Store, as well as multiple language support for the custom font preview app.

Fourteen new font families have been added, bringing the total number of font families to 161 and the total number of fonts in this collection to 2,018. You can download the newest premium font designs, each with a 10 computer commercial use license..

Apple reenables App Slicing in iOS 9

Apple has reenabled iOS 9's App Slicing feature. It had been temporarily unavailable due to a bug in iCloud.

App Slicing (also known as app thinning) tailors app delivery to the capabilities of the user’s particular device, with minimal footprint. This optimization, called app thinning, lets you create apps that use the most device features, occupy minimum disk space, and accommodate future updates that can be applied by Apple.

Starting with iOS 9.0.2, users will have access to updated apps that take advantage of App Thinning.

Ireland's finance minster: problem into Apple's taxes...

The findings of a probe into Apple’s tax affairs in Ireland won’t hurt the country, according to Finance Minister Michael Noonan, who vowed to go to court to fight any negative ruling from European Union watchdogs, reports Blooomberg Business (

Ireland has an “indication ” the EU will decide before the end of the year whether the nation’s tax dealings with the iPhone maker violate the bloc’s state-aid rules, Noonan told reporters in Luxembourg.

Whatever happens, "we don’t think it will be damaging to us," Noonan said. "If it’s adverse, we think it’s based on very thin legal grounds and we’ll have it before the European Court of Justice.”"

Exploit discovered that can get around the Mac's malware...

A security researcher has uncovered an exploit that can get around the Mac’s malware gatekeeper. The malware uses a binary file already trusted by Apple to get around the gatekeeper and can then execute malicious files including password loggers, apps that capture audio and video or botnet software, according to Ken Westin, security analyst for Tripwire, a software company that develops, markets and sells information technology solutions that provide security and compliance automation.

"To mitigate the potential damage from the continual barrage of endpoint vulnerabilities organizations need rigorous security analytics," he says. "The only way to detect anomalous behavior that can indicate a system has been compromised is through the correlation of endpoint and network activity.”

BatchOutput PDF now supports custom paper sizes

Zevrix Solutions has released BatchOutput PDF 2.2.16, a feature update to its solution to automate PDF printing with watched hot folders on OS X.

With BatchOutput PDF, users only need to drop PDFs into hot folders and the files will be printed automatically using the assigned output preset, saving users the time and effort of printing the files manually. Version 2.2.16 supports custom paper sizes defined in system's Page Setup dialog and addresses some performance and stability issues.
