‘Internet Slowdown’ launches across the web

support for stronger net neutrality protections by adding a spinning icon to their websites, representing a slow-loading Internet.

The symbolic icon links to a series of actions to members of Congress, the White House and the FCC. The event builds on the millions of Americans who have told the government to protect innovation and fairness on the Internet from corporate interference.

Cortado's cloud printing solution comes to the Mac

Cortado, maker of the ThinPrint Cloud Print cloud printing solution, has released a version for Mac users. Now Macs are also able to send print jobs from the cloud to any printer that has been designated a Cloud Printer.

The Mac app complements the Cortado apps already available for iPhones, iPads, Android and Windows devices. With the free app, Mac users can print their documents from anywhere via the cloud. For example, they can use their Mac to print while mobile to a home or office printer. One feature of ThinPrint Cloud Printer is that it works with any printer and from any application, regardless of the manufacturer, says Thien Nguyen, product manager, ThinPrint Cloud Printer at Cortado AG.

LaCie d2 Thunderbolt 2 features new design, SSD upgrade

LaCie (www.lacie.com) has announced the latest evolution of its d2 desktop storage line. The latest LaCie d2 features a new all-aluminum unibody enclosure, dual Thunderbolt 2, and USB 3.0.

Plus, LaCie designed the d2 Thunderbolt 2 to be upgradable to the fastest SSD on the market, which boosts speeds up to 1150 MB/s. It combines the latest interfaces and a Seagate 6 TB 7200 RPM professional hard disk, resulting in speeds of up to 220 MB/s.

'I know countries' 1.3 leverages Apple Maps

Grapevine-cottage has given us "I know countries" 1.3 for Mac OS X. The app leverages full Apple Maps support to provide a user experience while navigating.

The map responds to a mouse click and highlights country boundaries and area, drops a pin at the capital location and shows a callout with flag, while speaking the country name and capital name.

The app supports all map types standard, satellite and hybrid, as well as the standard map navigation features for apps, including 3D mode at applicable map and zoom levels. All map details are available to the user, supporting direct drilldown to city street level.

"I know countries" requires Mac OS X 10.9 or higher. It's available for US$1.99 at the Mac App Store.

Pagico for Desktop for OS X revved to version 6.8

NOTES17 has launched Pagico for Desktop 6.8 (http://www.pagico.com/), an update to their information and task manager app for Mac OS X. The upgrade adds the ability to attach files and emails to new tasks and notes. Users can add files or emails to new tasks via a simple drag-and-drop. In addition, the task description fields are enhanced to make the note-taking process more enjoyable.

Pagico for Desktop manages all types of data, including notes, tasks, files, projects and contacts. On top of the project and contact management features, it also has a powerful set of scheduling features, assisting users to keep track of their tasks and appointments among projects and clients.

MOGA unveils Rebel iOS controller

MOGA has unveiled its MOGA Rebel, a full-sized, console-style, premium game controller for iPhone, iPad, iPad air, iPad mini and iPod touch (5th generation) running iOS 7 or 8. It will be available in Apple stores in North America on Sept. 17 for US$79.99.

MOGA Rebel combines the best features of a tablet game controller with the added ability to use it portably with the iPhone or iPod touch, according to the folks at MOGA. They adds that gamers using an iPhone or iPod touch (5th generation) will also be able to transform their phone into a complete mobile gaming system by securing their device to the MOGA Rebel's flip-up MOGA Arm with S.M.R.T. Seagate unveils new cloud, enterprise solutions

Seagate Technology has announced several product updates that support its mission to lead the world in the storing, sharing and protecting the world’s data.

The company also announced today its new Cloud Systems and Solutions group (CSS), which, in the company's words, "deliver the world’s most scalable, secure, efficient, and cost-effective Cloud service architectures and solutions." Apple, U2 release 'Songs of Innocence' exclusively for...

Apple, Universal Music Group and rock band U2 has announced the release of the album, "Songs of Innocence," which Apple is gifting to iTunes Store customers around the world, making it the largest album release ever with over half a billion copies distributed.

The album features 11 new songs from the band and charts their earliest influences from 70s rock and punk rock to early 80s electronica and soul. The album is free for iTunes Store account holders in 119 countries and is available exclusively on iTunes for the next five weeks.

Apple announces Apple Pay

Apple has announced Apple Pay, a new category of service designed to transform mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay. It work with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus through a NFC antenna design, a dedicated chip called the Secure Element, and Touch ID.

Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, says Apple Pay is easy to set up, so hundreds of millions of users can simply add their credit or debit card on file from their iTunes Store account. Apple has unveiled Apple Watch, which it calls its "most personal device ever." It boasts a specially designed and engineered Digital Crown that provides a way to scroll, zoom and navigate.

Apple CEO Tim Cook says the Digital Crown is Apple’s most revolutionary navigation tool since the iPod Click Wheel and iPhone Multi-Touch. Apple announces the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus

Apple has announced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, featuring two new models with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays.

The new smartphones feature a precision unibody enclosure of anodized aluminum that conforms with the shaped glass of the display. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are engineered to be the thinnest ever, delivering a bigger display in a design that is still comfortable to hold and easy to use, says Apple CEO Tim Cook.

NuMac Solutions announces Blu-Ray disc burner for new Mac Pro

NuMac Solutions has announced its optical disc burning solution for Apple's new Mac Pro. The NMBDR6x supports reading and writing of Blu-Rays, DVDs, and CDs.

Adobe announces video technology innovations at IBC 2014

Adobe (www.abode.com) has announced plans to update Adobe Creative Cloud video desktop apps and Adobe Anywhere for video.

The company says key updates include new media and project management tools in Adobe Premiere Pro CC; a refreshed user-interface across all Adobe video desktop apps; and more streamlined production workflows empowering video professionals to edit more efficiently. New updates will also be added to Adobe Anywhere, which enables large virtual teams of talent to collaborate and efficiently shoot, log, edit, share and finish video productions together.

Dell introduces two high-end computer monitors

Dell (www.dell.com) has introduced the 27-inch US$1,049 Dell 55 Monitor, which boasts a widescreen display that delivers Full HD resolution and a 3000:1 contrast. If that's not enough, the company also previewed the Dell UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K Monitor, the world’s first display with Ultra HD 5K resolution (5120 x 2880).

Ultra HD 5K is equivalent to four times the resolution of QHD and seven times the resolution of Full HD. It also delivers immersive acoustics with two 16W integrated Harmon Kardon speakers.
