Polished Play Releases Core Animator 1.0 for Mac OS X

Polished Play has introduces Core Animator 1.0, an animation tool for Mac OS X. Available at the Mac App Store, the utility was developed to help designers, animators, and developers bring more creativity and interactivity to their apps.

Core Animator allows iOS and Mac developers to create animations and export them to native Objective-C or Swift code. Users can visually create 2D animations based on properties such as translation, scale, rotation and opacity. Several options help to smooth out the animations and give them life.

AKVIS Magnifier 8.0 adds new print options

AKVIS (www.akvis.com) has announced AKVIS Magnifier 8.0, an update of the image resizing software that can be used both as a standalone application and plugin for Photoshop, on Mac OS X (10.6 and higher) and Windows. The program now lets you print "super high resolution images.

AKVIS Magnifier lets you resize images without loss in quality. It can not only reduce an image, but can also increase a picture by dozens of times with no artifacts or halos.

Version 8.0 offers new print options. Now it's possible to print "super high" resolution images on multiple pages to get professional-quality posters. It adds Dropbox to the list of publishing services and support for more RAW formats to the standalone version.

Graphic Node updates Set for iWork

Graphic Node has again expanded its assortment of iWork templates with a new update of Set for iWork.

The pack for Apple's Pages, Keynote, and Numbers contains over 3,000 templates and images, while the recent update includes a new Graphics category and reduces the size of the download. AppleMacSoft releases MP3 Splitter for Mac OS X

AppleMacSoft ( http://www.applemacsoft.com/ ) has introduced MP3 Splitter for Mac OS X. The utility that enables you to crop and trim MP3, M4A and AAC audio files, or just rapidly split a large MP3 file into many smaller files. or to extract manually selected segments of an audio file to new audio files without reducing quality.

Prosoft Engineering (www.prosofteng.com) has released Drive Genius 4.0.1, an update of its US$99 collection of software tools to speed up, clean up and protect your Mac. It's a maintenance upgrade.

Tropical Software announces Fastspring partnership

Tropical Software has announced a new eCommerce partnership with Fastspring to market and sell Tropical's Mac software.

iWork for iCloud apps now available for Windows, Android users

Apple has made its iWork apps — Pages, Numbers and Keynote — available to users of beyond Mac OS X and iOS apps. Yep, that means Windows and Android users.

The apps are accessible to users without an Apple device through the iCloud Beta program. Anyone can sign up for an Apple ID to access Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for free. Each account comes with 1GB of complementary iCloud storage.

Previously, you could only create an Apple ID login on a Mac, iPhone or iPad. In order to register an Apple ID, go to beta.icloud.com and click the link below the sign-in area that allows users to create an account. Users can then create a login with any email address.

24U Software updates FileMaker plug-ins

24U Software (http://www.24usoftware.com/) has announced an immediate availability of updating custom-developed FileMaker plug-ins and mobile apps for 64-bit architecture.

The new service includes identifying hidden issues, cleaning-up code, creating new builds for FileMaker Server 13 and iOS 8, and more. Owners of FileMaker plug-ins and iOS apps can now hire 24U to update their products for 64-bit versions of FileMaker Server and iOS.

Since Feb. 1, all new apps uploaded to the Apple App Store must support 64-bit architecture and be built for iOS 8. All new iOS devices, such as the new iPad Air or iPhone 6, are using a 64-bit architecture. So any new version of an existing iOS app must be optimized for iOS 8 and 64-bit processors in order to get approved by Apple for distribution on the App Store.

Flexiglass update is out with OS X 10.10.2 compatibility

Nulana has released Flexiglass 1.6. an update that brings compatibility with Mac OS X 10.10.2 and fixes for such features as Real Zoom and Quick Layouts in multi-monitor configurations.

24U Software releases 24U Phone Companion 2.0

24U Software has rolled out 24U Phone Companion 2.0, a new version of their FileMaker plug-in solution for Mac OS X and Windows.

4U Phone Companion allows FileMaker solutions to interact directly with supported PBX (telephone switches). Version 2.0 adds support for call centers by providing called trunk line identification and improving support for complex phone handling workflows thanks to the ability to process unknown messages from and send raw commands back to the connected phone system.

Apple is planning a $850 million solar farm

First Solar (www.firstsolar.com), a provider of comprehensive photovoltaic (PV) solar systems, says Apple has committed $848 million for clean energy from First Solar's California Flats Solar Project in Monterey County, California.

Apple will receive electricity from 130 megawatts (MW) of the solar project under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA), the largest agreement in the industry to provide clean energy to a commercial end user.

"Apple is leading the way in addressing climate change by showing how large companies can serve their operations with 100 percent clean, renewable energy," says Joe Kishkill, chief commercial officer for First Solar. "Apple's commitment was instrumental in making this project possible and will significantly increase the supply of solar power in California. BBVA Compass cardholders can enroll now in Apple Pay

BBVA Compass cardholders can now put away their plastic and use Apple Pay, the mobile payments solution introduced by Apple.

Those with BBVA Compass Visa consumer credit and BBVA Compass Visa consumer and business check cards are now eligible to add their cards to Apple Pay. Apple Pay lets customers make mobile payments in participating stores from their iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and, after it debuts, the Apple Watch. Altium announces new PCB design tool for SolidWorks integration

Altium Limited has announced PCBWorks, a new PCB design tool created to enhance workflow collaboration between electrical and mechanical designers. Backblaze Reliability data set for 41,000 hard drives now open...

Backblaze Online Backup has released raw data collected from the more than 41,000 disk drives in its data center to correlate drive failures with drive model numbers, with SMART statistics, and other variables.

The data that collected is in two files, one containing the 2013 data and one containing the 2014 data. Backblaze says they will add data for 2015 and so on in a similar fashion. You’ll find links to download the data files at http://tinyurl.com/nqffmvz. You’ll also find instructions on how to create your own sqlite database for the data, and other information related to the files you can download.

Every day, the software that runs the Backblaze data center takes a snapshot of the state of every drive in the data center, including the drive’s serial number, model number, and all of its SMART data. The SMART data includes the number of hours the drive has been running, the temperature of the drive, whether sectors have gone bad, and many more things.

MasterCard cardholders with a consumer credit or debit card from BECU, Fifth Third, First Niagara and Huntington National Bank now have access to payments through Apple Pay.

To help consumers use Apple Pay, MasterCard has developed the MasterCard Nearby app, available in the App Store. It helps you find merchants near your current location that accept contactless payments.

Apple announced Apple Pay in September 2014, describing it as “a new category of service designed to transform mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay.” It works with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus through a NFC antenna design, a dedicated chip called the Secure Element, and Touch ID.
