WaterField Designs unveils the Field Tote business bag for men


WaterField Designs (www.sfbags.com) has announced the Field Tote, an US$119 tote for men made of waxed canvas and distressed leather. It weighs one pound and will ship Aug. 14.

"We set out to design a men's tote that works well for guys to use professionally or on casual outings—not just the look, but the size and features as well," says owner Gary Waterfield. You can stow your laptop-in-a-sleeve or tablet in the Field Tote or stuff in your gym towels, wine bottles, or magazines. Seagate Expands Flash Portfolio with new Nytro Flash Products

Seagate Technology (www.seagate.com) has announced the Nytro XF1440 2.5”, Nytro XM1440 M.2 non-volatile memory express (NVMe) Solid State Drives (SSDs) and the Nytro XP6500 Flash Accelerator Card.

These products extend Seagate’s portfolio of flash-based solutions, which are designed to work in conjunction with Seagate storage products to meet nearly any data storage need. Google morphs into Alphabet, a company that will own Google

On Aug. 10, Google announced plans to create a new public holding company, Alphabet Inc. and a new operating structure to increase management scale and focus on its consolidated businesses.

Under the new operating structure, its main Google business will include search, ads, maps, apps, YouTube and Android and the related technical infrastructure (the "Google business"). Businesses such as Calico, Nest, and Fiber, as well as its investing arms, such as Google Ventures and Google Capital, and incubator projects, such as Google X, will be managed separately from the Google business.

Output Factory for InDesign can now insert document text into...

Zevrix Solutions has announced Output Factory 1.5.35, a feature update to its output automation solution for Adobe InDesign.

Output Factory automates printing, exporting, preflighting and file delivery from InDesign. The software offers batch processing, export as single pages, variable file names, layer versioning, PDF preflight, FTP file delivery and more. The new version improves the way users can insert contents of selected text frames in InDesign document into variable output file names.

Output Factory can be purchased from the Zevrix website for US$169.95. There's also a "lite" version for $120, Sand a server version $700). A demo is available for download. BatchOutput users can upgrade to Output Factory for $85. Output Factory requires Mac OS X 10.6-10.10 and Adobe InDesign CS3-CC 2015.

2pensmedia has announced Coinnect. In the free game, players score points by matching adjacent coins of the same color before the timer runs out. Coins can be matched in a variety of ways, including horizontally, vertically, diagonally, or through a combination of directions.

Apple Pay now available to Bellco members

Bellco members will become some of the first credit union members in Colorado to have the ability to use Apple Pay for purchases at participating stores. Bellco is one of Colorado’s largest financial institutions, with more than $2.9 billion in assets and 21 branches in Colorado.

Apple Pay provides a private and secure way to make in-store payments from Bellco accounts using an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or Apple Watch; or within apps from the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

Troi Automatisering has released Troi Text Plug-in 3.5 for...

Troi Automatisering has released Troi Text Plug-in 3.5 for FileMaker Pro 14. It's the latest version of the tool for for dealing with text in your FileMaker Pro database.

Troi Text Plug-in 3.5 is compatible with FileMaker Pro 12, 13 and 14. It also adds the example file EasyInstallTroiPlugins.fmp12, with support for the 64-bit version of FileMaker Pro 14.

A fully functional demo of Troi Text Plug-in 3.5 is available for downloading at Troi's web site (http://tinyurl.com/plzbk5d). It works with FileMaker Pro 12, 13 and 14. The plug-in can also be used with runtimes created by FileMaker Advanced 12, 13 or 14. The plug-in is available for Nac OS X 10.6.x or higher, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

Recosoft Corp. is shipping ID2Office 2.1 the newest version of the InDesign to Word, PowerPoint and Keynote conversion plug-in for InDesign Creative Cloud 2015.

The new version has been enhanced to support Adobe InDesign CC 2015, the latest release of InDesign for both the Mac and Windows platforms. Additionally, version 2.1 adds support for InDesign CC 2015 properties such as Paragraph shadings and Graphic cells in tables, and more.

European Commission: no evidence of collusion between Apple,...

The European Commission found no evidence of collusion among the major music labels and Apple to stifle free music streaming services such as those offered by Spotify, reports Re/code (http://tinyurl.com/ocqcveq), quoting four unnamed "sources with knowledge of the matter."

Investigators examined whether the labels conspired with one another or with Apple on Apple’s new streaming music service in a way that would hurt rivals, the article adds. The probe failed to turn up any illegal activity, though the EU will continue to monitor the market, sources said.

Apple has extended its annual back to school promotion. It's now online (http://tinyurl.com/nl9zv29) and available in some European countries, as well as the U.S. and Canada.

Those who buy an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air or Mac Pro get a free pair of Beats Solo2 On-Ear headphones. There’s also an option to upgrade to a pair of Beats Solo2 Wireless Headphones for $100.

Apple merges online store into all its web pages

Apple has built its online store into its main website and separate web pages. There's no longer a separate "Store" listing on Apple's pages.

Instead, there's a shopping bag icon that displays products in the shopping cart, past order information, account details, and favorites. You buy an item by clicking the "Buy" button on a product's page. This links you to the purchasing menus formerly available in the online store.

Apple Watch arrives at Best Buy

The Apple Watch is now available at Best Buy locations. It's the first national retailer in the U.S., other than Apple Stores, where customers can buy the smartwatch.

The Apple Watch has arrived in more than 100 Best Buy stores and will also be available on BestBuy.com. Another 200 of the stores will have the Apple Watch in time for holiday shopping, says  Jason Bonfig, senior category officer at Best Buy.

Customers can see, try and buy 16 Apple Watch models – including Sport and Watch models in both 38mm and 42mm sizes – and nearly 50 accessories, including watch bands, screen shields, stands, chargers and more. nVeil Art for Mac OS X adds photo enhancement masking, more

Storek Studio has announced nVeil Art 2.0 (http://nVeil.com), an update to its graphic remix tool for Mac OS X.

nVeil generates works of digital abstract cubism by filtering photos or video through vector-drawn veils. Colors and motion come from the source imagery, and can then be further modified with nVeil's controls. Version 2.0 features photo enhancement masking, a new image format, an enlarged library of veils, new tutorials, an improved user interface, and more.

Giants Software has announced Farming Simulator 16 for iOS. In the US$4.99 app, players can operate tractors and machines, raise, harvest, and sell crops, and master their land. In addition to crops, farmers can feed sheep and cows to sell wool and milk.

Fan Studio has introduced Save the Planet - Airplane Fighter for the iPhone. It's an $1.99, vertically scrolling shoot 'em up game set in the time of World War II. Open source Mandarin Chinese translation of Apple's Swift...

Since June 2014, more than 100 programmers have contributed to an open source Mandarin Chinese translation of Swift, the in-house programming language Apple uses for iOS development, reports Bloomberg (http://tinyurl.com/ox4wr7j).

Designed for Cocoa and Cocoa Touch, Swift — which debuted last summer — combines the performance and efficiency of compiled languages with the simplicity and interactivity of popular scripting languages, says Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.

A round of finishing touches was added to the Mandarin Chinese tranlstion last month, making it easier for 850 million native Mandarin speakers to build iOS apps. The project’s originator is Jie Liang, a student at BeiHang University in Beijing, who wrote in a celebratory blog post that he began translating Swift to "synchronize China and the world," says Bloomberg.

ZFoundry releases zCloud for Mac OS X

zFoundry (http://zfoundry.co) has released zCloud for Mac OS X. It's an app that connects to Dropbox to allow users to create shareable links to screenshots, images and other files for instant collaboration without the hassle of bulky attachments or signing into additional software or websites.

An instantly shareable link is generated by dragging a file to the zCloud icon in the menubar, taking a screenshot with customizable keyboard shortcuts or designating a Finder folder(s) that will automatically upload and generate links for files added to it. The link is automatically copied to the clipboard when any of these actions are performed, so all the user has to do is paste and share via email, instant message or any other method.

iBooks Author Conference coming to Nashville, TN, in October

11 million sign up for Apple Music

Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet software and services, tells USA Today (http://tinyurl.com/oem879t) that 11 million people have signed up for Apple Music (or, at least, the three month, free trial version).

"We're thrilled with the numbers so far," says Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet software and services, adding that of that number, two million have opted for the family plan at $14.99 a month for up to six people.

Apple Music costs US$9.99 a month for individual access to 30 million songs as well as human-curation playlists and a live radio station. Assuming all the trial memberships are converted into paying customers come October, Apple would already boast half the paid memberships of reigning streaming champ Spotify, which launched nearly a decade ago, notes USA Today.

Apple Pay now available to diners at Pei Wei

Fast-casual restaurant Pei Wei now offers diners access to Apple Pay. The restaurant, known for its made-to-order, Asian-inspired menu, now accepts Apple's mobile payment system in all of its nearly 200 locations for customers using iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch.

"Accepting Apple Pay is a win for Pei Wei because it’s convenient and gives our guests the flexibility to use their preferred method of payment," says Pei Wei CEO Ralph Bower. "It allows us to safely and quickly process transactions, increasing both customer service and restaurant efficiency. This is just one way we’re implementing the latest technology to improve the dining experience."
