Apple reports third quarter fiscal results

Apple has announced the financial results for its fiscal 2014 third quarter that ended June 28. The company posted quarterly revenue of US$37.4 billion and quarterly net profit of $7.7 billion, or $1.28 per diluted share.

These results compare to revenue of $35.3 billion and net profit of $6.9 billion, or $1.07 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.4% compared to 36.9% in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 59% of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple’s board of directors has declared a cash dividend of $.47 per share of the Company’s common stock. The dividend is payable on August 14, 2014, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on August 11, 2014.

mLogic ships mTape backup and archiving solution

mLogic is shipping its mTape backup and archiving solution. The company says it's the industry’s first LTO-6 tape drive to feature Thunderbolt connectivity and the first tape drive system to receive Thunderbolt certification from Apple and Intel.

It supports LTFS for drag and drop functionality and has two Thunderbolt ports for daisy-chaining. The mTape's SAS expansion port enables writing to two or more LTO drives simultaneously. It's compatible with backup/archive software from Archiware, Imagine Products, StorageDNA, YoYotta and others

Castle of Illusion coming to the Mac on July 24

Feral Interactive says the fairytale platforming game Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, a re-imagining of the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive game of the same name, will be released for the Mac on Thursday, July 24.

Troi Activator Plug-In for Filemaker Pro 13 revved to version 3....

Troi Automatisering (http://tinyurl.com/mq4s7k9) has updated its Troi Activator plug-in for FileMaker Pro to version 3.5.3. It's a maintenance upgrade that fixes some problems with registering.

Troi Activator Plug-in 3.5.3 works with FileMaker Pro 10, 11, 12 and 13. The plug-in can also be used with runtimes from FileMaker Pro Advanced 10, 11, 12 and 13. The plug-in is available for Mac OS X 10.5.7 or higher.

Licenses cost US$89 per user. Details on developer licenses and multi-user discounts can be found on the Troi web site.

WD expands NAS storage offerings

WD has expanded its WD Red line of SATA hard drives for home and small office NAS (network attached storage) systems with the release of a 5TB and first-to-market 6TB capacity for NAS-specific storage and the introduction of WD Red Pro hard drives that address the medium to large business NAS market.

WD Red 3.5-inch hard drives are now shipping in 1TB to 6TB capacities. The new WD Red Pro 3.5-inch hard drives are available in 2TB to 4TB capacities.

Available now at select U.S. retailers and distributors, WD Red and WD Red Pro have three- and five-year limited regional warranties, respectively. Apple announces eighth annual iTunes Festival in London

Apple has announced that Maroon 5, Pharrell Williams, Beck, Sam Smith, Blondie, Kylie, David Guetta, 5 Seconds of Summer, Calvin Harris, Chrissie Hynde and many more of the world’s biggest artists will be headlining this year’s iTunes Festival.

Returning to the UK for an eighth year — following a week of live performances in March at SXSW — the iTunes Festival will feature over 60 acts throughout September at the Roundhouse. iTunes performances can be watched live or on-demand by iOS users around the world on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and iTunes on their Mac or Windows computer or in HD with Apple TV. Adobe announces Camera Raw 8.6 Release Candidate

Adobe has announced the availability of Camera Raw 8.6 Release Candidate on Adobe Labs (http://labs.adobe.com). The release candidate adds bug fixes, lens profiles, and support for new cameras including the recently released Nikon D810.
 
The release candidate also includes improvements for batch processing and color matching profiles for the Sony DSC-RX100 III, Sony A7S, and Sony Alpha SLT-A77 II. Camera Raw 8.6 is available as a free update for Photoshop customers.

BlackMagic Design announces new ProRes formats for its cameras

Blackmagic Design (http://www.blackmagicdesign.com) has unveiled version 1.8.2 of its Camera software, adding three new Apple ProRes file formats for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Production Camera 4K.

Camera 1.8.2 update is available free of charge from the Blackmagic Design website. Blackmagic Design camera customers have always been able to record in both CinemaDNG RAW or compressed ProRes 422 HQ formats;, however now this new software update adds three additional Apple ProRes file formats: ProRes 422, ProRes 422 LT and ProRes 422 Proxy.

This means customers using Blackmagic Design cameras will be able to get significantly smaller video file sizes allowing much longer recording durations on the same media card, all while preserving full frame 10-bit 4:2:2 quality. Sue Wagner joins Apple's Board of Directors

Apple has announced that Susan L. Wagner, founding partner and director of BlackRock, has been elected to Apple's board of directors. Bill Campbell, the board’s longest-serving member, is retiring after 17 years of service.
 
Wagner co-founded BlackRock in 1988 and helped it become one of the world’s most successful asset-management companies, holding a range of leadership positions including vice chairman until mid-2012. She continues to serve on the boards of BlackRock and DSP BlackRock (India), as well as Swiss Re, Wellesley College and Hackley School.

Graphic Node launches a scrapbook template set for Pages

Graphic Node (http://graphicnode.com/) has introduced Sketches for Pages 1.0, a new templates collection designed specifically for Apple's page layout program. The set includes 50 customizable templates for creating scrapbooks.

Featuring media placeholders, virtually all objects can be recolored, moved, or removed. Users can also type or paste their own text, add or remove text boxes, and change fonts in any way they wish.

Typinator for Mac OS X revved to version 6.1

Ergonis Software (http://www.ergonis.com) has released Typinator 6.1, the latest version of its tool for auto-typing text and auto-correcting typos systemwide across all Mac OS X applications. The upgrade sports over 50 new features and improvements, including a new marker for suppressing the current replacement and a new function for sorting text lines.

With an inclusion mechanism, text expansions can execute external scripts and include their results in the expansion. Typinator supports scripts written in in many different languages like AppleScript, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, and arbitrary shell scripting languages.

Project Build has introduced CocoaNotes 1.0 (http://tinyurl.com/nqbhz65) for Mac OS X. It's a multi-platform rich text editor that stores and manages notes in folders, leveraging iCloud's preferred document based synchronization technology.

You can store all notes and folders using iCloud and access them on all your Apple devices — or you can choose to store notes only on one device without iCloud. A new update to ConceptDraw Pro and ConceptDraw Solution Park of accounting and audit flowcharts provide expanded capabilities to describe processes that relate to a company’s business.

Markzware releases Q2ID with InDesign CC 2014 support

Markzware (www.markzware.com) has released Q2ID. The Q2ID Bundle Subscription (1 Year) includes both Mac and Win versions of Q2ID for InDesign CC 2014, CC, CS6, CS5.5 and CS5 (for a total of 10 InDesign plugins).
