MCE ships Mac compatible Complement

MCE Technologies (http://www.mcetech.com) has begun shipping the Mac compatible MCE Complement, an all-in-one, portable USB 3.0 device comprised of a 2 TB Hard Drive, a Blu-ray, DVD, CD Reader/Recorder, a USB 3.0 Hub, and SD Card Reader.

The MCE Complement's 2 TB hard drive is designed for use as a standard storage device and is compatible with Time Machine. The unit includes Mac Blu-ray Player software for the playback of commercial Blu-ray titles directly on the Mac.

In addition to recording and playing high capacity Blu-ray media, the drive is also a full-fledged SuperDrive and reads and writes all CD and DVD formats. The Complement also boasts an integrated USB 3.0 hub as well as an SD Card Reader. The MCE Complement is portable at 5.5 x 6 x 1.25 inches, weighs in at 19 ounces and includes a carrying case. Anuman Interactive has announced a "freemium" version of Gods vs. Humans. In the game, humans build a 10-story tower up to the world of the Gods. You embody one of the 20 gods or goddesses (four of them are hidden) to foil their bold attempt and stop them from getting into your world.

OmNom Apps has released Word Search Master 1.0. It's a free app that offers an "elegant and fun way to search for words."

Acclivity announces the latest release of Checkout Point of Sale

Acclivity has released Checkout Point of Sale v4, an update of the Mac point of sale software used by business around the world. The upgrade sports over 45 new or enhanced features, a faster image processing engine, and Shopify syncing for e-commerce users.

"Checkout 4 includes a number significant technical, under-the-hood enhancements that will deliver increased performance and stability, which is important to retailers of all sizes and types," says Tom Nash, Acclivity co-founder.  "But what we're probably most excited about is the tight integration between Checkout and Shopify, providing stores and boutiques a true end-to-end solution for selling their wares on- and off-line.”

D-Link shipping low cost, 802.11ac wireless access point

D-Link (http://www.dlink.com) has announced the DAP-2660, an US$229.99, 802.11ac wireless access point. Packaged in a low profile white housing, the DAP-2660 is designed for ceiling or wall mount applications in schools, office buildings, hospitals, government facilities, hotels, and more.
 
The DAP-2660 delivers wireless performance using the latest 802.11ac standard, with maximum wireless signal rates of up to 300 Mbps using the 2.4GHz band, and 867 Mbps using the 5 GHz band.
 
The DAP-2660 has internal antennas, is easy to install and can be powered using the included AC to DC adapter or directly via the network cable using Power over Ethernet from any switch or midspan injector that supports IEEE 802.3af, according to Steven Olen, director of product marketing, D-Link Systems.

Adobe issues security updates for Flash Player

A vulnerability in Adobe's Flash player that could allow malicious users to steal browser data — including cookies — on Macs, PCs, and Linux machines has been exploited, prompting Adobe to issue a patch and urge users to upgrade their system as soon as possible, reports AppleInsider.com.

Adobe has released security updates for Adobe Flash Player 14.0.0.125 and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh and Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.378 and earlier versions for Linux. These updates address vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. Thecus announces OS updates for full NAS lineup

Thecus Technology Corp. has announced firmware enhancements on all consumer and enterprise NAS models. The company says updates to ThecusOS 5 and 6 mean enhanced capability and security across the entire Thecus NAS lineup.

For the N2310, ThecusOS 6 is upgraded to offer multiple RAID volumes and RAID Encryption. Updates for the 2-bay N2520 and N2560 as well as the 4-bay N4520 and N4560 models offer enhanced UPS support and multiple RAID volumes. In addition, OpenSSL updates and bug fixes enhance security and reliability of these consumer and SOHO Thecus NAS models, according to the folks at Thecus.

Bassem Youssef has announced Light 'em Up. The free puzzle game challenges players to create a path to power the light bulbs before the timer runs out. Players have a set amount of steps to connect the tubes, activate the light and win the level.

Knowledge Poker is a new, US$0.99 knowledge game based on "loosely" Poker rules. The player, learns and ascertains what he knows by placing bets on his knowledge on a specific answer that they think is correct. The asked questions are about various fields of knowledge such as History, Arts, Sports, Science, Human rights.

Fast Pixel Games has released Sticky Soccer. Based on their previous title , StickyBalls Classic, the $0.99 app adds 12 all-new tables and a soccer theme.

Milk Inc. has announced Falls 1.0. It's a free action puzzle game for in which players must long-tap the white ring at the bottom of the screen until it changes to the corresponding color to fire the same colored ball upwards to destroy the descending ball. If the balls are the same color, they will destroy each other. The game is over if the falling ball reaches the ring at the bottom.


Tanner Christensen has released Brainbean for the iPad. The free game (which does tout in-app purchases) is filled with mini-games that last 60 seconds each and which are designed to "challenge your creativity and exercise your brain."

Cowly Owl has introduced Dinosaur Mix. The US$2.99 lets you swap body parts to make your own dinosaur.

Washing Machine for Mac OS X revved to version 10.8.4

Intego, a provider of security products built exclusively for Mac users, has released Washing Machine 10.8.4 for Mac OS X 10.6 or higher. The upgrade enhances the functionality of the Duplicate cycle. Mac Washing Machine version 10.8.4 gives you more options for finding, verifying and selecting duplicate files.

The app:

° Seeks out files the user no longer uses or needs and quickly cleans them from their machine, freeing up gigabytes of space and increasing Mac performance. These files include downloads, caches, logs and trash.

ABBYYFineReader Pro for Mac supports seven more languages

ABBYY has released a new version of ABBYY FineReader Pro for Mac. It's now compatible with seven more languages — Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Hebrew and Arabic — bringing the number of supported languages to 180.


The application turns scanned paper documents, PDF files and digital camera images into searchable and editable files, maintaining the original formatting and layout. ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for Mac recognizes text a variety of languages and can distinguish multilingual documents containing up to three languages.

The application intelligently re-creates layout and formatting elements found in the original document including tables, columns, graphics, bullet points and numbering. It also supports the conversion of image-only and scanned PDFs into searchable PDF format.

Peter Fischer has announced ClipUp. Originally developed for "on the go" investigative journalists the US$1.99 app is for anyone in need of organizational help, memory assistance and creative inspiration.

Local Search Corp. has released 411.ca. The fee app lets users get the 411 in their neighborhood and explore popular local businesses, search for businesses via categories, filter searches to refine results, read reviews, access zoom-able maps and get directions, perform a Canada whitepage directory search, see "who called" via the reverse number look-up, and browse their search history.

Mutlu Creative has introduced A Life Worth Dying. In the $2.99 memory game, you're about to die. Your goal is to remember a sequence of cues. If you can recall them correctly, you will trigger short video flashbacks. The videos are part of core gameplay, not just for cinematic effect.

Technichor introduces Horcrux Email Backup for the Mac

Technichor has introduced Horcrux Email Backup (http://thehorcrux.com/), a Mac app that lets email users automatically keep their data rather than surrendering it to third party services.

Horcrux takes daily snapshots of email accounts. The app is continuous and in real time, so that as soon as a new email is added it will be transferred. It gives users the option to change email providers without losing prior data. Horcrux will also migrate the emails to another email service.

Image Viewer for Mac OS X revved to version 1.7

Abacus has released Image Viewer 1.7, an upgrade of the Mac OS X app for viewing images and photos for an entire library.

Users can open a file and then view all image files in that folder by clicking the mouse or pressing the keyboard. Version 1.7 adds the ability to delete via Move to Trash in menus and via Command-D. It also improvers performance.

This Mac OS X app is designed to Dazzle you

Kallaxa Software has introduced Dazzle, a system cleaner developed exclusively for Mac OS X. Designed for both home and business users, it allows you to uninstall apps, wipe web histories, clean up logs and caches, find duplicate files and more.

Dazzle can be automatically scheduled to run daily, weekly, or monthly and will periodically remind you perform scans.

Apple releases iMovie 10.0.4 for Mac OS X

Apple has updated iMovie for Mac OS X to version 10.0.4. It includes stability improvements and resolves issues that could cause it to quit unexpectedly.

iMovie 10.0.4 is a free update for registered users. For new users the cost is US$14.99. It requires Mac OS X 10.9.2 and higher and is available at the Mac App Store.

LinkOptimizer now compatible with 2014 InDesign CC

Zevrix Solutions (www.zevrix.com) has released LinkOptimizer 4.9.17, a compatibility update to its workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign.

LinkOptimizer allows users to reduce the size of InDesign links and speed up processing by eliminating excess image data. It also performs image color conversion and sharpening, converts file formats and more. The new version makes LinkOptimizer compatible with the 2014 release of InDesign CC featured as part of Adobe Creative Cloud.

AweSoft has introduced AweNote 1.0 for the iPad. It's a $9.99 note taking application with features such as stylus note, text note, audio and video note, plus a range of built-in library of basic figures.

Linkyun Game has launched Find Hidden Money. The free (for a limited time) game lets you "travel the five continents and pick up money in over 50 must-see sites all over the world."

Joerg Piringer has unveiled unimator. It's a $0.99 text and sign animation app that lets you create quick text and sign animations.

NChart3D comes to Mac OS X

Nulana LTD says NChart3D 1.5, their charting framework for iOS, is now available for Mac OS X (10.7 and higher). It allows developers to make data visualizations in Mac OS X applications.

NChart3D uses hardware-accelerated OpenGL ES based graphics that allows for the rendering of large amounts of data with lighting effects while remaining responsive to user interactions. According to the folks at Nulana, it's easy to use the framework inside the Objective-C Mac application, thanks to NChart3D Cocoa API. PageMeUp for Mac OS X gets maintenance upgrade

Softobe has introduced PageMeUp 1.0.2 (http://tinyurl.com/ozgvtyr), an update of its layout editor for Mac OS X 10.8 or higher. It's a maintenance release with bug fixes and improvements.

With PageMeUp, you create a document, choose its page format, size and background color, set the margins, bleed, custom guides, rows and columns and even apply RGB or CMYK ICC color profiles.
