Apple asks Supreme Court to dismiss ebook antitrust lawsuit

Apple has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn an appellate court decision that found the company conspired with five publishers to increase e-book prices, reports Reuters (http://tinyurl.com/ptvqyv). The Cupertino, California-based company wants the high court to review a June ruling that favored the U.S. Department of Justice, and found the company liable for engaging in a conspiracy that violated federal antitrust laws.

Reuters reports that Apple, in its petition, said the June decision by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York contradicted Supreme Court precedent and would "chill innovation and risk taking.” "The Second Circuit's decision will harm competition and the national economy," Apple wrote.

If upheld, the decision would force Apple to pay consumers $450 million under a 2014 settlement with 33 state attorneys general and consumers that was contingent on the company's...

Apple’s iPhone has 14 percent worldwide marketshare

According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics (www.strategyanalytics.com), global smartphone shipments grew 10 percent annually to reach 354 million units in the third quarter of 2015. Samsung grew its smartphone shipments six percent and finally returned to positive growth for the first time in over a year.

Global smartphone shipments grew just 10 percent annually from 323.4 million units in the third quarter (Q3) 2014 to 354.2 million in Q3 2015, according to the research. This quarter was the smartphone industry's slowest growth rate for six years, since the depths of the global economic recession back in 2009. Smartphone growth is slowing due to increasing penetration maturity in major markets of the US, Europe and China.

Output Factory Server for Adobe InDesign now supports El Capitan

Zevrix Solutions has announced Output Factory Server 1.2.3, a compatibility update to its output workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign.

Output Factory Server automates printing and exporting from InDesign by processing files from hot folders. The software offloads output tasks to a central system leaving operator workstations free from the output process. The new version makes Output Factory Server compatible with the recently released Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

Red Giant releases Trapcode Suite 13

Red Giant has released Trapcode Suite 13, an upgrade to its set of tools for creating motion graphics and visual effects in Adobe After Effects.

In addition to major updates to Trapcode Particular, Shine and Mir, the release introduces Trapcode Tao, a new plugin for generating 3D geometries along a path. The update also includes new features in Trapcode Form, Sound Keys and Starglow.

Trapcode Particular’s new Effects Builder lets artists drag and drop blocks of particle behaviors and styles, and includes a built-in instant preview window for immediate feedback. Primera Disc Publishers now burn Blu-ray Discs at triple the...

Primera Technology has rolled out Version 2.2.1 of its PT Publisher disc burning software. This new version has a number of updates included.

Most significant is the improved burn time for Blu-ray Disc (BD-R) media. In previous versions, burning a full 25 GB BD-R took about 33 minutes. With version 2.2.1, burning a full 25 GB BD-R disc takes about 11 minutes – about three times as fast, says Mark D. Strobel, Primera’s vice president of Sales and Marketing.

Version 2.2.1 will be included with all Primera BD-R Disc Publishers starting today. Existing owners of Primera’s BD-R disc publishers can download the software at no additional cost at Primera main website under “Support” or at http://bit.ly/1OGIUCo.

Zevrix Solutions has announced PDF Checkpoint 1.7.13, a compatibility update to its PDF preflight and conversion solution.

The app automatically preflights, exports as images, splits and optimizes Adobe PDF files. The software can also convert the color of PDF elements to specific ICC profile. Paragon Software announces storage SDKs for iOS, Android

Paragon Software Group (www.paragon-software.com/) has released its UFSD software development kits for iOS and Android. They’re designed to make it easier to develop apps that take advantage of USB storage.
