Pylon offers a way for guests to connect to Wi-Fi

A Kickstarter campaign is underway for Pylon, a three-square-inch plaque that lives on the wall near a person’s home entrance. The plaque is pre-linked to a Wi-Fi base station and when a user waves their mobile device over Pylon as they enter a home, they're automatically connected to the host’s Wi-Fi network without entering a password.

The connection works with Near Field Communication (NFC) on Android, and by bumping the Pylon with iOS, Windows and BlackBerry devices. Chris Henseler, founder of Pylon, says it was created to streamline the process of connecting to a person’s Wi-Fi while bypassing the tedious task of entering an intricate or unknown password, all while security remains intact.

When a guest connects to a home network, the owner is notified via the Pylon app, where they can control the degree of access of each of their guests. Close friends can be granted access indefinitely when they’re in Wi-Fi range, while acquaintances may be granted access for...

Court doesn't sanction Samsung for patent licensing...

A U.S. district court says Samsung won't be sanctioned for the disclosure of confidential Apple-Nokia patent licensing. It blames on the Korean tech giant's counsel Quinn Emmanuel, reports "AppleInsider" (http://tinyurl.com/pozeuq3).

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ruled in favor of an Apple order to grant sanctions over the inadvertently leaked information. However, U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal wrote in the order that the dissemination of confidential information was inadvertent and was a "simple error in redaction," says "AppleInsider."

This is all part of the ongoing, global legal battle. Apple and Samsung have filed more than 30 lawsuits against each other across four continents. For example, Apple alleges that Samsung copied the slide-to-unlock technology of its iPhone and iPad devices.

The Belgian Council of Ministers has ruled that mobile phone makers can no longer block 4G for certain carriers, reports "ZDNet" (http://tinyurl.com/nlmr5wa).

Though the ruling applies to all phone manufacturers, the decision is mainly targeted at Apple, "which has been consistently blocking iPhone users' access to the 4G networks of Belgian telcos Proximus and Base," the article adds.

"ZDNet" says the reason for the block is that Apple has made 4G access available to iPhones on Mobistart, its preferred partner first in Belgium. However, Mobistar doesn't have a 4G network yet, whereas competitors Proximus and Base both do.
