VisionTek launches Four Port USB 3 PCI3 card

VisionTek (www.visiontek.com) has launched the US$32.99 Four Port USB 3 PCI3 card. It offers plug and play operation with Macs running OS X 10.8.2 and later.

According to the folks at VisionTek, it can deliver benchmark test-confirmed 356MB/s Read and 338MB/s Write data transfers. It can also be used to power USB devices or charge them without needing an AC adapter. Each port provides 900mA of power.

Sandvox for Mac OS X gets Vimeo support, more

Karelia Software (www.karelia.com) has updated Sandvox, their web creation software for Mac OS X, to version 2.9. The upgrade introduces a new Vimeo object that makes it super easy to display videos hosted on Vimeo.com. Now, for the first time, website creators using Sandvox can simply choose the Vimeo object to embed Vimeo content on a website.

Sandvox 2.9 also improves publishing performance, and now includes direct support for SSL security for FTP and WebDAV. The specific publishing connection protocols supported by the revamped, faster publishing engine include FTP with Implicit SSL, FTP with TLS/SSL, and WebDAV with HTTPS. Finally, new support for LetsMove, a technology acquired with Potion Factory, makes it even easier to install the app.

GRID 2 Reloaded Edition drives onto the Mac Sept. 25

Feral Interactive says the racing game GRID 2 Reloaded Edition will be unleashed on the Mac Sept. 25. Developed and published by Codemasters for PC and consoles, it's the successor to GRID.

When released, the game will be available for download from a variety of digital partner sites worldwide including the Feral Store, Steam and the Mac App Store. Computech, a FileMaker Platinum partner, has released the latest version of BusinessMan CRM/ERP software. Among other enhancements itSynergize.

AOC releases new 24-inch gaming monitor

AOC (us.aoc.com) has announced the US$449 AOC 24-inch Gaming Monitor, powered by NVIDIA G-Sync technology and designed for competitive gamers.

G-SYNC technology synchronizes display refresh rates between the monitor and the computer’s GPU to eliminate screen tearing and minimize display stutter and input lag, according to the folks at AOC. Centrify further extends Apple device management to the Cloud

Centrify Corp. (www.centrify.com) — which specializes in unified identify management across data center, cloud and mobile environments — has launched Centrify for Mac 2014.1, a core component of the Centrify User Suite.

With this new release Centrify says it's easing the burden for Mac administrators by giving them additional cloud-based management options while also enhancing its on-premises Active Directory support for the Mac platform. In addition, Centrify has enhanced its mobile device management capabilities to include support for iOS 8.

Centrify says it's working on integrating with Apple's Touch ID system to ensure the right users have unfettered access to the applications and data they need.  In addition, Centrify is leveraging iOS 8 extensions to incorporate a login flow for users accessing company resources via Safari.

First weekend iPhone sales top 10 million

Apple says it sold over 10 million new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models, a new record, just three days after the launch on Sept. 19.

The new smartphones are available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK and will be available in more than 20 additional countries on Sept. 26. The new iPhones will be available in 115 countries by the end of the year. 

"Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a press release. "We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible."

Akvis AirBrush update for Mac OS X adds new Share option

Akvis has released Akvis AirBrush 2.5, available as a standalone program and as a plug-in for graphics editors. Available for Mac OS X and Windows, the software turns photos into airbrush paintings.

Version 2.5 adds a Share option that lets you post your images from the program to the social networks and services such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, Google+, and Dropbox. It also enlarged the maximum size of the Quick Preview area which helps to adjust the parameters of the effect. Plus, AirBrush 2.5 adds: the possibility to reverse background and paint colors and a new interface theme.

CryptoEdit For Mac OS X Revved To Version 2.0

Tension Software (http://www.tensionsoftware.com) has revved CrytoEdit, a Mac OS X app for creating/editing "encrypted by default" documents, to version 2.0.1. It's a maintenance upgrade.

CryptoEdit can manage TEXT, RTF and RTFD (with images) formats. It saves documents on disk always as encrypted and is designed as a solution for managing reserved documents with formatted text and images.

Logoist for Mac OS X gets group management feature, more

Synium Software (www.syniumsoftware.com) has updated Logoist, its vector drawing app, to version 2.0. The upgrade comes with a layer group management feature, Boolean operations, a vector export feature, a preset assistant, new filters, new presets and more.

Logoist 2 is designed for both home and professional users. Its interface provides access to features ranging from combined pixel and vector-based effects to group management tools, including arbitrary Boolean operations.

Punch-BD is new Mac compatible bass drum virtual instrument

Virtual instrument and effects plug-in developer, Rob Papen Soundware, has released Punch-BD, a bass drum virtual instrument for Mac (OS X 10.6 or higher) and Windows (Vista, 7, and 8). MyScript Stack, MyScript Stylus bring handwriting input method...

MyScript, which specializes in handwriting recognition and digital ink management technology, has announced two input panel applications that offer user-friendly alternatives to keyboard entry. Both applications run on any iOS 8 device, regardless of size.

The core technology featured in the apps is also available to developers who want to create note-taking applications, education applications, games and more. The first application available is MyScript Stack, which allows superimposed input (also known as overwriting) in a single character interface. The input panel allows users to continuously write characters on top of each other.

Mac OS X updated to version 10.9.5

Apple has released Mac OS X 10.9.5. The company says it improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac. This update:

° Improves the reliability of VPN connections that use USB smart cards for authentication;

° Improves the reliability of accessing files located on an SMB server;

° Includes Safari 7.0.6.

Apple says that, for enterprise content, this update:

° Fixes an issue with group membership in large network groups, that also might prevent administrators from performing some administrative tasks successfully.

° Allows for faster authentication when roaming on 802.1x networks which use EAP-TLS.
