Mac task list app Taskdeck adds Cloud sync, iOS companion app

 Karl Traunmueller has released an update to Taskdeck for Mac, the Mac task and to-do list app. It adds, among other improvements, cloud syncing.

At the same time, an iOS companion app, Taskdeck for iOS, has been launched to bring the Taskdeck experience to mobile devices. Syncing between desktop and mobile is handled by a new Cloud sync platform called Taskdeck Cloud.

Taskdeck 1.1 can be purchased for US$2.99 at Traunmueller's online store (http://taskdeckapp.com). A fully functional 30-day trial is available for download. Users who prefer to purchase the app in the Mac App Store can do so, as well.

Point in Space announces FileMaker Pro 13 hosting on FileMaker...

FreeFileSync gives us a free, cross-platform syncing utility

The FreeFileSync open source development team has released FreeFileSync, a free file synchronization utility for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux systms. It's optimized for both CPU and file I/O performance.

On an older computer, the software can purportedly scan a hard drive with 200,000 files in less than three minutes. On a new computer with an SSD drive, the same scan takes about 10 seconds, according to the development team.

Users can automate their synchronization tasks by running FreeFileSync as a batch job. The software can even copy NTFS security permissions and extended attributes such as compressed, encrypted, and sparse.

CES: TP-LINK launches AV1000 Gigabit Powerline Adapter

TP-LINK announced the TL-PA8010 AV1000 Gigabit Powerline Adapter, its fastest Powerline adapter to date with throughput up to one gigabit, at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Featuring the latest HomePlug AV2 standard, the device provides real gigabit throughput over a home or office’s existing electrical wiring, according to the folks at TP-Link. Users can use it for high speed wired networking throughout their home or office for lag-free HD video streaming and online gaming.

The TL-PA8010 is interoperable with Powerline Adapters at various connection speeds, including 200, 500, 600 and 900Mbps. Users can get their networks up and running by plugging the Powerline Adapters into available power outlets.

Apple wants court-appointed attorney removed

Apple wants an attorney appointed by a court to monitor its antitrust compliance following a ruling last year that the company had conspired to fix e-book prices, reports "Reuters" (http://tinyurl.com/lcre3zl).

An attorney for the consumer technology giant on Tuesday asked U.S. District Judge Denise Cote in Manhattan to disqualify Michael Bromwich from serving as an external compliance monitor, arguing he had shown a personal bias against the company. In a letter to Cote, Apple's lawyer cited a "wholly inappropriate declaration" filed by Bromwich last month.

IK Multimedia announces iRing for iDevices

IK Multimedia has announced the iRing, a motion-tracking controller for iOS music apps and more. Now musicians and others can control sound effects and other parameters of their favorite apps, in real time, using hand position, freeing them from needing to touch the screen.

The iRing utilizes a wearable ring with identifiable markers, the mobile device's front-facing camera, and computer vision with recognition algorithms built into an app, to determine the precise positioning of the ring markers, tracking their movements and position on the 3-dimensional space in front of the device. CES: Mobile Edge announces new Checkpoint friendly laptop cases

Mobile Edge (http://www.mobiledge.com) announced a new line of chic TSA compliant laptop and tablet cases designed for women at this week's Consumer Electronics Show.

The Herringbone Element Briefcases come in two sizes each with dedicated padded compartments for a laptop and a tablet. With them, travelers can leave their laptop and tablet in their bag while passing through airport security checkpoints.

The Herringbone material is accented with black Koskin trim, contrast stitching and polished nickel fittings. Studiometry for Mac OS X gets sub-projects, resource management...

Orange Software has revved Studiometry, its client and project management tool, to version 11.1. The upgrade adds sub-projects, resource management, and more.

Studiometry runs on Mac OS X, Windows and iOS. Sub-projects are now possible in the software. Just drag and drop one project onto another and you’ve got a sub-project.

Another addition in Studiometry 11.1 is the ability to manage resources. Resources include anything that you can reserve for an event or task, such as conference rooms, equipment, etc. You can view their availability right in Studiometry’s calendar. Studiometry will alert you of scheduling conflicts and make suggestions for changes.

CES: Razer announces the Nabu smart band

Razer rolled out its Nabu smart band at this week's Consumer Electronics Show. It interacts with iOS and Android devices.

The Nabu is a wearable devicee that delivers notifications from a smartphone right to one’s wrist and tracks selected personal information. It's also an open platform that third-party applications can exploit to create novel experiences for users, applying personal, physical and geographical opt-in data.

The Razer Nabu has two OLED notification screens — a Public Icon Screen and a Private Message Screen. The Public icon screen — located on the top of the wrist — notifies users of incoming calls, texts, emails and app updates via notification icons. The Private message screen — located on the inside of the wrist — provides detailed information of texts, emails, bio data and other updates that can only be viewed by the user.

Braven unveils Vibe audio system

Braven unveiled the Vibe, a portable distributed audio Bluetooth and Wi-Fi audio system, at this week's Consumer Electronics Show. It allows users to share music across multiple devices virtually anywhere from any wireless device.

The Braven Vibe System takes advantage of single streaming and sharing solutions across iOS, Android, and Windows devices and can support multiple audio streams concurrently. It creates a wireless sound network and allows users to establish speaker zones for customized audio streaming from just about anywhere.

iPort unveils all-in-one iPad charge case, stand

iPort has started taking orders for two new products — Charge Case and Stand for iPad mini with Retina display and iPad Air — on iPortProducts.com. The iPort Charge Case and Stand is an all-in-one iPad case, wireless charger and stand.

It features three distinct mounting angles allowing for FaceTime, movies, or typing and two charging orientations (portrait and landscape). The company says it's the first of its kind to allow users to snap an Apple Smart Cover directly onto their ultra-slim, magnetically-equipped Charge Case.

CES: aKu previews portrait camera for the iPhone

What if an iPhone could take DSLR-quality portraits? What if transferring memory cards, connecting cables and waiting for friends to upload pictures to social media were things of the past? Hardware startup aKu wants to make this possible with the ladibird camera.

It's a hardware device that takes all of the essential optics and electronics of a professional DSLR camera and merges them into a phone casing for the iPhone. aKu is previewing the ladibird camera at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Not only is aKu's new ladibird camera lighter, less bulky and less complex than a DSLR, it also enables instant shoot and share through social networks, chat apps, to the cloud, or email, according to aKu's Adam Latip. Its image sensor is 7.5x larger than the average smartphone sensor -- and 4x larger than a compact sensor, he adds. This extra large size lets it absorb more light into any photograph.

Epson launches new wireless sheetfed scanner

Epson has unveiled the WorkForce DS-560, its first wireless sheetfed scanner. With its Wi-Fi connectivity, it offers point-to-point scanning directly to smartphones, tablets, Macs or PCs.

The DS-560 also includes a range of features such as fast scan speeds, one-pass double-sided scanning and a software package. In addition to its ability to scan to popular cloud services, it allows users to scan directly to a mobile device. For increased flexibility, users can upload scans to their cloud service of choice, such as Google Docs or Evernote, directly from their mobile device.

Buffalo America has launched its LinkStation 200 series of network storage devices at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Kensington launches new rugged cases for the iPad

Apple store sales top US$10 billion in 2013

Apple today announced that customers spent over US$10 billion on the App Store in 2013, including over $1 billion in December alone.

App Store customers downloaded almost three billion apps in December making it the most successful month in App Store history. The company says developers have now earned $15 billion on the App Store.

"We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store," Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, said in a press release. "The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014."

CES: BlueFlame unveils cable-free charging solution

BlueFlame launched its latest charging solution, The Station, at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It's designed for the iPhone 5, 5s, and 5c and iPod touch (5th generation).

Mushkin launches enterprise class SSD at CES

FAVI introduces WiFi Pico projector

FAVI Entertainment has announced its new WiFi-enabled Pico+ Projector with Miracast and Airplay Wireless display, allowing users to wirelessly share their mobile screens and laptop content on up to a 100” projector screen.
